Throwing water at a cat

some cat has been bullying my cat for weeks, he comes on my window sill where my cat likes to sit and bullies him, you can see my cat isnt on fighting because the cat is screaming in his face and he is lowering his body.

So my window is open and the cat is arguing again with my cat, i throw water at the cat under my window then go outside and throw more water on him so he runs away.

A woman shouted at me to leave the cat alone, I said no he has been bullying my cat for days and she said she will call rspca on me for animal cruelty. I just slammed the door.

was i wrong?

Meh! I've owned cats for years, and we're taking decades. Plain water will not hurt them but will stop the fight. She can call the RSPCA on you but they'll laugh down the phone at her.

Water doesn't hurt but it probably doesn't help the cat with its anger issues around your house/cat. It might stay away but then again it might equate your house and cat with negativity even more now.

I would always shoo a cat away, you can flap something or make a loud noise to make them go away they don't like that and it's probably less unkind

It's only water.

But the cat isn't "bullying". They have hierarchies and fight for territory. It's just what cats do.

I tried to clap and the cat wouldn't back off, I then banged on the window but he ignored me that is when I threw the water

I bought a super soaker type thing for the cat that attacked ours (repeatedly) and also went for me. Never known such a loony animal.
Chucking water at a cat really isn't going to bother the RSPCA. Not exactly aiming a flame thrower at it are you? And actually by stopping fighting that cat is less likely to get a nasty wound that could lead to an abscess!
Can you cat proof your garden?

We have a new cat and all the cats in the neighbourhood keep coming into our garden and trying to get in the cat flap. I've been chucking jugs of water at them all week and have just dug out an old water pistol- today is the first day we've had no visitors!

This cat is an arsehole, he even comes into my flat when I leave the bedroom window open and i'm in the living room, then my cats come and alert me by running and peaking around the corner, they are both scared of it. Proper little shit it is and worse thing is it screams

Meh, I used to do this to one particular little bastard who hung about terrorizing my rabbit. It doesn't hurt it. YANBU.

Water at a cat is absolutely fine!

Get a super soaker if you need to. It's just water. Won't kill it harm the cat

Chucking water at a cat that is being aggressive is harmless and the best way to deal with it. I would be VERY surprised if the RSPCA acted on this,considering that,a lot of the time,they won't even do anything about real cases of cruelty. Sorry if that offends anyone,but that has been my experience.

Good lord it's fine. In fact I've got two cats and if I thought the worst thing that might happen to them while roaming was that someone would chuck water on them I'd be pretty alright with that...

I have a cat and would throw water at a bully cat.

A few years ago our neighbour had a lot of cats that she didn't really look after saying that cats don't have owners. The cats kept shitting in my garden they regularly got squirted by a giant water pistol that I bought for the purpose. I have no shame whatsoever doing this.

I am so sorry. I know in my heart that this isn't quite the correct response... But I saw the phrase "super soaker" and I've list the plot

Another cat lover here and another one saying I would have no issues with you throwing water at mine. If water doesn't bother it then get an air sprayer, which is used to get gunk out of your computer keyboard, and give them a blast of that. Scares them without harming, same as water

I spray water at cats who bully my cats. I also tell my neighbours to do it to my cats if they don't want them in their garden. It doesn't harm them!
RSPCA won't care

YANBU. I've been known to turn the garden hose on cats that are acting aggressively to mine - I know they're just being territorial, but our poor cat ought to be able to wave her tail in our own garden!

Water won't hurt them

When my cat was an old dear (17 when she died) a young tom used to constantly harass her. It came in through her cat door, I caught it outside (out of reach) and kicked the cardoor to make a noise. Little git lunged through the door and tried to attack me instead

He got water. In droves.
He never came back.
I was not having my elderly cat terrorised in her own garden.

Water doesn't harm if it's thrown, I wouldn't use a supersoaker. A jet of water near eyes or ears could damage them.

I tend to flap something like a towel or get a Broom out for annoying pets

Or kitchen foil. Cats do not like it

I know my neighbours hate my cats so we're getting them (neighbours) super soakers to deter wanderings & placate the neighbours. I prefer my babies in my own garden anyway.
