Throwing water at a cat

Shannyfanny · 27/05/2016 18:54

some cat has been bullying my cat for weeks, he comes on my window sill where my cat likes to sit and bullies him, you can see my cat isnt on fighting because the cat is screaming in his face and he is lowering his body.

So my window is open and the cat is arguing again with my cat, i throw water at the cat under my window then go outside and throw more water on him so he runs away.

A woman shouted at me to leave the cat alone, I said no he has been bullying my cat for days and she said she will call rspca on me for animal cruelty. I just slammed the door.

was i wrong?

If it were my cat doing the bullying I would have told you to throw water at it... YANBU.

EveryoneElsie · 27/05/2016 21:41

The RSPCA wont do anything. Water wont hurt the cat and will prevent a fight.
Get a water pistol. Grin

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 27/05/2016 21:43

I don't think I can even count the number of dousings I have given to cats over the years. Similarly, I know that a couple of mine have been subjected to a jug or three of water by a neighbour. It's a harmless method of enforcing territory, and much better than getting yourself I hustled by flapping a limb about near an aggressive animal. I have the scars to prove that one unfortunately!

acasualobserver · 27/05/2016 21:44

Possibly the most anthropomorphic OP in the history of the internet.

WaitrosePigeon · 27/05/2016 21:49

The RSPCA don't care about most things so they definitely won't care about this.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 27/05/2016 21:49

we have a bully cat who likes to think he owns the entire neighbourhood, and he get introduced to the dog if he tries it on

Dog happens to be 49kg of cat loving GSD with serious personal space issues.

One attempted introduction lasts about two years as a deterrent.

TaIkinPeace · 27/05/2016 21:50

Do it
Soak the bastard
if you can catch the git into a bucket of cold water, do it

and when my neighbours did exactly that with my beloved cat
I bought them wine

he was a git of the first order
I loved him
they loved him
but he came home drenched (deservedly) regularly

PeppermintPasty · 27/05/2016 21:51

I love the idea of a cat with anger issues Grin

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/05/2016 21:56

Worry not,the RSPCA will do fuck all. I called them once about an animal in danger on a main road and they wouldn't come out, asked if I could capture it Hmm

Kitla · 27/05/2016 21:59

My rescue cat keeps getting bullied by a local tomcat (bitten, scratched etc) and she's really a wimp.

Our bet advised us to get a water pistol to spray the other cat, so he no longer considers our back garden his territory.

It works Grin

TaIkinPeace · 27/05/2016 21:59

It is UTTERLY for the good that the RSPCA have had their prosecution rights removed

BeJayKayven · 27/05/2016 22:04

Someone once told me to half fill empty 2ltr plastic bottles (like empty coke bottle) and leave on the lawn where the cat was crapping all the time.
Strangely they don't like it, it kept it away although having my garden strewn with plastic bottles wasn't nice.

Glovebug · 28/05/2016 03:49

Cats protection advised us to use a water pistol. Bit of water will scare it away but won't hurt it

Atenco · 28/05/2016 04:53

Yeap, water is the only thing cats understand. We use a spray bottle.

OliviaStabler · 28/05/2016 05:13

I've done this plenty of times when the cat won't go away by clapping etc. One local cat is an evil bugger (and I love cats) and he got doused a number of times. He now knows not to mess with us.

YANBU

mamacien · 28/05/2016 06:14

Any cat that has the cheek to poop in my garden where my children dig and play gets a little shower from the garden hose. You don't even need a reason to want someone else's pet off your property and water is a harmless deterant! YANBU

MurphysChild · 28/05/2016 06:46

I am also a cat owner of over 40 years. I have two that detest each other and when they were younger had proper fights. On one occasion I couldn't separate them they were screaming and fighting in a ball of fur in the garden. They got the hosepipe turned on them.

They did stop fighting, and skulked off and haven't fought like that since. They still hiss, spit and swipe at each other though Grin

MurphysChild · 28/05/2016 06:49

BeJay I wonder if that is the explanation for all the large bottles of water I would see outside villas in Spain, could never understand why they were there.

Justsaynonow · 28/05/2016 06:58

Peppermint I love the idea of a cat with anger issues
You'd love mine, then. We inherited her from friends and she has status oriented aggression plus times when she's just pissed off at the world. She latches onto whatever body part is nearest to her - with teeth and claws. I did a ton of research and found a book called "Think like a cat", about cat psychology. Helped us to live with her for the past 13 years- getting rid of her would have been a death sentence for her. We've done behavioural modification with water spray bottles and treats, and we're good at reading her signals. My scabs are almost healed from the last attack - she got me when I was too slow clearing my lap for her to jump onto it :-). Our previous cat was incredibly gentle and tolerant so this one was a shock. Still, she's part of the family. She hates the water spray and it's an effective deterrent. I'd get a supersoaker if we had another cat coming onto our property frequently. I usually just yell. No more vet bills, please...

CoraPirbright · 28/05/2016 07:28

Given that water doesn't harm them and only gives them a bit of a surprise, I would be willing to bet that the RSPCA would consider it to be quite a good solution to your problem! Ignore the bonkers woman!

wtffgs · 28/05/2016 07:48

Cat owner here. One of mine was a neighbourhood thug in his younger years (no idea why - neutered, properly fed, lots of attention and access to a big garden and woods beyond). He can still be a bit of a wanker now Grin

I would have no problem whatsoever with anyone using a super soaker on my cat.

My cat is a horrible bully. He even bullies my dog. :( He was a stray all his life and this is he first time he has had a home.

tiredvommachine · 28/05/2016 10:49

Wanker cat Grin

TroysMammy · 28/05/2016 11:00

I used to run outside and tell them to fuck off and they would run away. I've never had experience of a cat constantly antagonizing my cats but if I did then that would be one soggy moggy. So yanbu.
