AIBU in the 1970s

I grew up in the 1970s, the age of relaxed and free range parenting. If mumsnet had existed then, what do you think mums would have asked in AIBU?

Should I make a fuss about the little bottles of milk a school being kept in the sun and curdling and making DD sick? Or should I just be grateful they get the milk?

GarlicShake · 12/05/2016 22:08

Re: shared Christmas presents. DD1 & DS1 both love their Scalextric & Meccano. They've asked us to give them joint presents this year, extensions to both sets, as they play with them together.

Their grandparents will give DD clothes and dolls. I'm getting a bit of earache from some other parents - not criticism, exactly, but they seem to think I shouldn't encourage DD to "play with cars". The kids spend hours together, building the tracks and racing the cars (though DH usually wins, lol.) It's ridiculous to say I'm spoiling her marriage prospects, isn't it?

GarlicShake · 12/05/2016 22:09

Argh, kscience, the milk! Such a good plan, gone so very wrong.

x2boys · 12/05/2016 22:11

Yes please kscience I wish my mother had its given me a life long Hatred of milk they always made us drink it in the afternoon when it had been in a warm classroom all day why ?I, m 42 and still won't drink milk .

PerspicaciaTick · 12/05/2016 22:17

When the sparrows have pecked holes into the lids of the milk bottles, do you still send the tops into school for fundraising?

kscience · 12/05/2016 22:23

x2 boys...I have the same reaction to milk and am also in my mid 40's

redshoeblueshoe · 12/05/2016 22:28

Sorry - another question. I'm just due to give birth - how many fags should I pack in my hospital bag ?

PerspicaciaTick · 12/05/2016 22:32

As many as you can carry redshoes - the baby will be in the hospital nursery so you'll have lots of time to yourself.

redshoeblueshoe · 12/05/2016 22:36

Thanks Perspica, so 60 fags and a dozen bottles of Guinness do I need anything else ?

Paleninteresting · 12/05/2016 22:37

My DD 10 had one of her full on migraines when we where on a day out today. After she had finished vomiting we put her in the car for the rest of the day. It was July, and a bit hot but we were 7 miles away from home and everyone else was having a good time.
DH thinks this IWBU by doing this, thoughts?

redshoeblueshoe · 12/05/2016 22:41

Migraine -where do they get this nonsense from ?
You should have made her walk home that would stop this silly business

LightDrizzle · 12/05/2016 22:41

AIBU to get cross when DD asks why she mustn't go near that simple lad who the whole village knows messes with kiddies and tortures animals? [ I found out 11 years after the event, that this man raped my 11 year old best friend under the Village Hall (it was sort of on stilts)

  • to boast the I don't have to work, I have a husband who can support us both, thank you very much!
  • to moan about the housekeeping my husband gives me every week; to rely on little pills the doctor gives me when I'm feeling low - all my friends need them from time to time; to burst into tears regularly because I feel unappreciated and like I'm nothing when I used to have a great career and drive a sports car - and still hate those "womens libbers". They seem to want to be men, they are so strident and no one likes that in a woman, it's unattractive. What's wrong with looking nice and being feminine?

🙁

x2boys · 12/05/2016 22:46

Does anyone else think the new film that's out in the cinema ,star wars I think it's called is going to be a big flop ?

GarlicShake · 12/05/2016 22:49

YABVVVU in your last paragraph, Drizzle Grin Hard-line 1970s women's libber here, proud of it, and looked good in those days I'll have you know!

GarlicShake · 12/05/2016 22:50

Bloody hell, x2, it was 1977 Shock

bushtailadventures · 12/05/2016 22:50

I'm in hospital on bedrest before the birth of my baby, AIBU to refuse the bottle of stout they bring round in the evening? I don't like it much and it makes my fags taste funny. Also AIBU to ask the nurse to empty my ashtray a bit more often?

Is it ok to give the baby Phenergan every night? She doesn't sleep more than 6 hours at a time, and thats really not long enough when she is 6 months old.

Should I ask my DM to give the dc a sugar lump before they clean their teeth? She gives them one as a treat every night when they stay with her, and I really would like them to hold on to their teeth past the age of 21

Coldtoeswarmheart · 12/05/2016 22:52

DM told me off today for putting DD's milky tea in a bottle, she says it should have been a Tommy Tippee cup as DD is 3 now. WIBU or was she?

Paleninteresting · 12/05/2016 22:53

Redshoes 😃
AIBU to let my kids wait until their father comes home to be walloped by his slipper or wooden spoon. They look a bit pale by 4.30.

notoTTIP · 12/05/2016 22:54

AIBU to let my 10 year old DD drink cider or shandy, made half and half beer and lemonade, in the pub beer garden, whilst I'm drinking beer inside, It's a children's drink after all. - My dad
My DD age 7 wants to smoke like her mum, AIBU to let her have the first puff as she lights them for me and then get her to hand them over to me so I can smoke them properly.
Also I'll get her one of those novelty sweet smokers kits with candy cigerettes and chocolate pipe.

PurpleWithRed · 12/05/2016 22:56

Aibu to expect my boyfriend to do the decent thing now he's got me up the duff? I told him we should only do it standing up, everyone knows you can't get pregnant that way.

Inertia · 12/05/2016 22:58

Aibu to tell the children to stop splashing about so much in the bath? It cost a fortune to fit that carpet up the side of the bath, and now it's just going soggy.

Inertia · 12/05/2016 23:01

AIBU to think that Ice Magic shouldn't curdle when it comes into contact with tinned peaches?

Birdsgottafly · 12/05/2016 23:04

"" to only drink a half pint of guiness rather than the full pint. I know I am pregnant and the irons good but I am not keen on the taste.""

You need a can of Mackeson's Stout, twice a day, instead. My neighbours Doctor instructed her Husband to ensure this happened. He's also asked the young girl up the round to come to hang out the washing, because it'll strangle the baby if my neighbour lifts her arms up that high.

BirthdayBetty · 12/05/2016 23:07

Aibu to let dd6 take her 3 month old baby sister out to play in the street in her silver cross dolls pram for a couple of hours so I can have a nap?
