AIBU in the 1970s

I grew up in the 1970s, the age of relaxed and free range parenting. If mumsnet had existed then, what do you think mums would have asked in AIBU?

The cat won't be harmed by my dc feeding it Space Dust will it?

morningtoncrescent62 · 12/05/2016 19:01

AIBU to think these new continental quilts will never catch on and stick with blankets

YANBU. Bulk buy some lovely psychedelic sheets (so restful) and you won't have to buy any more bedlinen for decades.

AIBU to send my 9 year old round the neighbourhood knocking on doors to sell photographs from her Sunny Smiles booklet?

Relax, nothing can go wrong. Look closely at the booklet and you'll see each page can be torn off at a perforated edge, leaving a tab where your DC can fill in the amount your lucky neighbour has paid. So it's all perfectly straightforward and beyond reproach, right? Just make sure DC has an empty Marvel tin or something to collect the dosh so that it doesn't fall out of holes in pockets.

Ruhrpott · 12/05/2016 19:03

Aibu to leave my 6 year old and 8 year old alone in the house all evening while me and my DH work next door in the liberal club where we are managers? We have now installed panic buttons and the burgler last week didn't hurt them, just chatted to them through the bedroom door. It's not as though everyone knows we work next door all evening!

LittlehumHams · 12/05/2016 19:04

AIBU?

I think our car is completely safe as long as the dc put their feet up on the seat ahead so that they avoid the very large rusty hole in the footwell (through which you can see the road).

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 12/05/2016 19:04

My husband has just gone out and bought himself a sporty Reliant Scimitar. It's a fun car, but we have problem. There's 5 of us and only 4 seats in the car. WIBU to allow my youngest DC sit on the armrest in between the back seats? They're only little, so won't be to heavy for it.

AIBU to not wanting Pampas grass in the front garden? OH thinks it will make us more welcome in the neighbourhood.

I would like to entertain more and show off our new freezer....I am just dying to serve arctic roll and have a couple of bottles of Mateus Rose that I want to try

TheoriginalLEM · 12/05/2016 19:07

Witchinghours;

Can't be doing with these newfangled gadgets. The chip pan has always done for us. I must say though that this new vegetable oil is a lot easier than lard.

Kummerspeck · 12/05/2016 19:09

AIBU to give the children (7 & 5) sandwiches and a biscuit each then send them out on their bikes all day so I can get on with things. They'll be home before dark so how dangerous could it be?

x2boys · 12/05/2016 19:11

We have just had our first foreign holiday to Spain we all just got added to dh, passport the children had great fun picking their souvernirs they got a toy donkey , castanets, and a doll dressed as a traditional Spanish lady ..

RockNRollNerd · 12/05/2016 19:12

Are DH and I BU to leave our DD at home alone when she's ill. We're both teachers and can't take time off and she's getting too big to just be dumped in the staff room with a blanket (there aren't enough chairs if she's asleep across more than 2 of them). She's nearly 10 and very sensible and she has to be REALLY POORLY to be allowed the day off school and all she will do is sleep anyway. If we don't have dinner duty one of us should be able to nip home at lunch time and check on her? If it helps to avoid drip feeding she's been letting herself into the house after school and sorting herself out until we get home since she was in the juniors.

wtffgs · 12/05/2016 19:15

AIBU to tie the back door key round DD's neck with a piece string so she can let herself in while I'm at work? It'll be fine?

Ruhrpott · 12/05/2016 19:16

I had one like this in brown

x2boys · 12/05/2016 19:18

We had a brown one RuhrpottGrin

tibbawyrots · 12/05/2016 19:19

My DD (9) is off school today because its a polling station. AIBU to say that she can do the laundry in the sink and then sit on the spin dryer to stop it bouncing around the kitchen before pegging it out?

DH and I both have to take DD (5) to ballet, DD (15) and DS (13) are busy so AIBU to ask DD (9) to make the entire dinner on a Wednesday?

oliviaclottedcream · 12/05/2016 19:23

My DD's PE teacher is reusing to take her and 6 of her girl friends in her class on a school trip to see Ian Dury, unless they all give him a kiss! AIBU to think DD should get first kiss?

(True story)

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 12/05/2016 19:24

AIBU to want to make cubed veg in aspic for my DH's Commanding Officers' meal? I'm making prawn cocktail for starters and stuffed cows' heart for main, andblack forest gateau for afters, but my cookbook has a rather snazzy aspic veg block and I've a new mould from Women's Own. I'll pipe cream cheese on the top.

Also, would the black and gold lame pants suit be too much?

AIBU to decorate our 3 girls shared (very large) bedroom with psychedelic Deep Purple inspired album wallpaper.
After all purple is the in colour with orange to accessorise.

x2boys · 12/05/2016 19:28

Aibu in thinking all this hype about computers is just that hype and they will never be popular with your average person?

MyLocal · 12/05/2016 19:28

AIBU to feed the kids Mothers Pride filled with Heinz sandwich spread when it's the long hot Summer of 1976 and the standpipe is only on for 2 hours a day?
