I'm just reading this and it says she found out she was pregnant but didn't know as she had irregular periods. Fair enough.

She then goes on to say that 'according to the Babycenter app I was already 7 weeks pregnant'

Eh? Is it psychic? How is this possible that an app know how far along she is?

I guess she put in the date of her last period when she realised she was pregnant.

Saying that, from the OP's narrative I don't think it's a book I'm going to spend £7.99 on.

If her periods are irregular and she never knows when they will be then how does the date of her last period help? Do they just count you as pregnant from that even if you could have 40 or 50 day cycles?

Yes, that is indeed what the apps do.

The apps always date your pregnancy from your last period, even if you know for definite when you ovulated.

Oh bloody hell she's written a book now? What's it called "Stating the bloody obvious?" Or "My sense of humour left with the placenta?"

Either way, any one can enter the date of their last period to get a rough date. Obviously this is more difficult if there's months and months between cycles but then an early scan may be offered.

Sounds like a book and blog to avoid.

Some of her posts pop up on Facebook now and then, when friends share or like them. They always amuse me. If she's found a readership and now has a book deal, good luck to her, how great. Nice that someone has had such good fortune from their blogging.

The apps, as has been said, always calculate back that way, as in fact do GPs. No matter how impossible that calculation may be in actuality.

The book is awful. I stupidly brought it on kindle thinking it would be funny light hearted read along the lines of other mummy fiction, but it's rubbish. Takes herself far too seriously and really difficult to read as everything so long winded.

Nothing funny although I've only managed half of the book. I never give up on a book either. No matter how bad I plough on hoping it will get better but this, Meh! I can't be bothered.

You should have left the number 1 bestseller bit.

I see posts on Facebook as well, she's not interesting enough to fork out for a book but good luck to her, I hope she does well.

Purely for the deletion message. First time ever I couldn't be arsed to even pretend to post a relevant comment when I just wanted to read the deletion comment.

WoodleyPixey Wife Up North (or similar title) was the last good 'mum' book/blog I read. Startlingly honest as someone who has made that journey from down south (Derbyshire) to up north (Durham) and tried to integrate into a very different community.

I like a good book that I don't have to think about it doesn't make me question to read myself to sleep. I have book clubs for my thought provoking fiction and have a degree in English literature so have read my fair share of Shakespeare and the bronte type literature.

What other genre would un mumsy mum, school gates etc come under?

It just seems like a non event. Why would she suspect she was pregnant if it was only 7 wks from her last period of she indeed had irregular periods? If if by irregular she means always around the month mark but not quite, then 7 wks isn't massively along is it, many people don't realise until then or later. If she had said 7 months, then fine, that would be almost interesting.
