  1. YOu have to activate offers - requires WAY too much thought and planning
  2. I just want money off things I buy fgs
  3. that fucking ' have you swiped your sparks card' is surely mitigation for murder?

I reckon all loyalty cards are a crock of shit
Hear hear! One reason I like Aldi is they don't have any of this loyalty card rubbish, they just sell the stuff cheap!

kelper · 11/04/2016 17:25

Tesco are good, i convert all my points to avios, I've got enough to fly business class to nyc at the moment!
Boots are good too,and i shop just enough in sainsburys to renew our english heritage membership each year ;)
having read this thread I'm very glad i didn't bother with a sparks card

magnoliamom · 11/04/2016 17:29

At my local M&S they don't even ask for the card at the till anymore, probably because they are tired of hearing people complain about how it is the most useless loyalty card scheme ever.

I used to fill up a coffee card every month or so - now I feel like the coffee has gotten slightly more expensive because there's no free one to be had. I also cannot believe that a loyalty scheme would be designed without considering the beauty department, it has improved tremendously over the past few years and I usually stop by for a look every week or so when I'm at the food hall. I would be tempted to buy more often if there were a loyalty scheme. See how that works, M&S? It's not that hard.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/04/2016 17:30

On the self service tills you can't swipe your card once you've pressed "finish" so unless you remember to do it at the beginning, you're stuffed. It's a complete crock imho and I'm usually a big M&S fan

memyselfandaye · 11/04/2016 17:41

Ive got over ten thousand points on my sparks card, they obviously know what I buy every week but do they ever give me a discount on anything I buy? Do they buggery.

I do like Nectar though, the app is good and actually gives me bonus points on things I buy.

LittleMissUpset · 11/04/2016 17:42

Imagine working on the self scans and hearing have you scanned your sparks card repeatedly Angry

Bit you can scan it after you press finish but have to press the Sparks card button on the pay screen, which is just ridiculous!

I was gutted about the cafe loyalty card, so now I go to the nice new Costa instead and collect points Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 11/04/2016 17:47

Can you? Ok I'll try that. It's such a bloody palaver though

YesThisIsMe · 11/04/2016 17:50

I love my Boots card. They send me a huge amount of ludicrously complex paper vouchers every couple of months but I bizarrely enjoy the challenge of stacking them all on top of each other.

JackandDiane · 11/04/2016 18:56

someone once tweeted how to turn off the voices on the self service tills.

Can i offer the sainsburys nectar card as another useless card. Ive not bothered with the sparks card. Good cards...tesco for days out vouchers, waitrose for papers, john lewis for hot drink and cake although the only cake worth eating is the bakewell cake and the others are too dry and boots and superdrug.

WaxyBean · 11/04/2016 19:09

I liked it the first week when I got 10% off all food. I swipe it religiously when I shop there but can't be arsed activating offers and have no idea what value all these points actually have.

daisychain01 · 11/04/2016 19:24

When will the penny drop with all these companies that discerning consumers are not interested or conned into

-jumping through hoops just to get a few pence off
-carrying round massive wadges of plastic in our wallets and purses
-constantly having to work out what the different points schemes are actually worth in real money
-(my bug bear) getting frustrated at the bloody expiry dates being in such tiny writing that most of the time the coupon has expired. Grrrrr.
-and another one, starting a scheme with a points value being worth one amount, then a few years later announcing "a change to our loyalty points scheme" yes well we all k ow the value is only heading in one direction, downwards!

JaceLancs · 11/04/2016 19:36

I got one realised how awful it was and now when asked just say I don't believe in sharing my data with them if there's nothing decent in it for me

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/04/2016 20:12

I have one, and they ask me every time I go, but I tell them I can't be bothered to fish it out since it doesn't confer any benefits that interest me.

Ditto the John Lewis card. They used at least to give you free coffee and cake for two once a month - now they've cut it down to one, stingy buggers.

If you don't collect points, like with Boots and Nectar, I just don't see the point.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 11/04/2016 20:17

Why don't we get MNHQ to invite the clueless person who designed the Sparks scheme to take us on in a live webinar chat

I'd even pay for that!

I got asked for mine this weekend 'do you have a Sparks card?' 'Yes...but I binned it. It's useless' I got a wry smile of acknowledgement and the feeling that she hears that often enough.

MakingJudySmile · 11/04/2016 20:23

Not got, nor been offered a Sparks card so can be sure. But it couldn't possibly be any crapper than the TKMaxx one can't recall what it's called, but you get exactly nothing for it. Well sorry you do you get to go to the shop on special evenings with other card holders.

JuxtapositionRecords · 11/04/2016 20:25

The name alone is enraging. As someone else said my mum is a prime M&S shopper and she bloody loves a good loyalty card - but she doesn't use the Internet so wasted on her.

It's all about the Boots card really. Plus you get some sweet deals there with the advantage card machine. One year it was 3 for 2 on kids clothes, and at the machine you got £5 off kids clothes as well which worked with the 3 for 2. Still remember it now that's how excited I was! must get out more

ZenNudist · 11/04/2016 20:31

I will be dropping my sparks card off the back of this thread. I assumed if get some coupons through I could use. I use m&s credit card and get £11 every so often to spend as I like plus vouchers with 20% off occasionally.

I food shop between Aldi /sainsbos (local) plus trips to m&s food hall more and more often because I'm too busy and knackered to cook

Disappointed that they don't just have a scheme like nectar that actually gives you some money off.

I get sick of 'earn 200 points' offers. Pointless IMO if nothing to spend them on.

Does anyone know if they're getting rid of the paper vouchers they send to m&s card holders?

wizzler · 11/04/2016 20:36

Agree entirely.. I don't even open the emails anymore.. beyond annoying

Daffodil90 · 11/04/2016 20:37

I have to admit I love a good loyalty card (nectar, boots and waterstones have my heart) but I've not even bothered with the sparks card. From all the feedback I got before id even laid eyes on one I just stayed away.
My DH wondered for a long time why i bothered with loyalty cards until he kept getting new jeans/beer/chocolate for free when we're so skint and realised that's why. Nectar is the only reason I can buy clothes haha.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 11/04/2016 20:53

OH always dutifully hands it over when asked. Why?

He. Doesn't. Even. KNOW

Confused
MuddhaOfSuburbia · 11/04/2016 20:55

The name alone is enraging

oh I LOVE the name though it took me at least 3 goes till I realised why it's called Sparks

they've wasted a great name on a shite concept

EddieStobbart · 11/04/2016 21:01

I'm not a fan of Boots as when I've check prices (avid Mysupermarket comparison fan) Boots prices usually seem to be around 4% more expensive than other stockists. I usually go elsewhere.

SpaceKablooie · 11/04/2016 21:06

I also claim not to have a Sparks card now.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/04/2016 21:09

Enrique maybe we could all club together our Sparks points worth 8p between the lot of us- and pay for them to come on here
