Time for bed at 7 nearly 8

Having an argument with DP...

I think they should be in bed sleeping by 8.30 (stories excluded)

What do mumsnetter think...

They do wake up super bloody early but I figure we deal with this and I'm not a monster I think occasionally it's ok for them to stay up a little late

But what time do people 7 year olds go to bed (sleep)

8.30 sounds plenty late enough to me. In fact the early rising could be down to the later night. Certainly with mine the later they go to bed the earlier they wake.

8.30 sounds late to me!

DS1 is eight this month, and he goes up to bed around 7/730 and is asleep by 745/8. Apart from one night when there is an activity that doesn't finish until 8, but then he's shattered next couple of days.

Ds1 (7) is lights out by 8pm but he does get up at 6 - he's an early riser no matter what time he's put to bed.

My 7 yr old;
7.30, asleep by 8.
Sleeps for 11 or 12 hours per night.
If we're out on a Saturday night she's allowed to stay up till whenever.

In bed (or at least her room) and reading by 7.15 most nights, lights off at 8.00 (or 8.30 in school holidays when we get up later). This is earlier than pretty much all her friends, apparently.

Bed by 7.30, having already had bath and stories, sleeping between 7.30 and 7.45, six days a week.

Saturday night is family tv night (the voice), so bed at 9 and asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow.

School nights bed at 7.30 and lights out by 8. Weekends/holidays an hour later.

We don't have a set bedtime here but my 7yo is typically lights out 8-8.15. He wakes any fine between 6 and 7. It sometimes ends up being 8.30, sometime before 8. He's just having a few trial weeks at Cubs (8 this month) which finishes at 8.15 so it will be a 9pm bedtime one night a week which feels really late.

The children do wake up between 5 and 6

We have twins and they are a nightmare to get to sleep at the moment

I think that's quite late. My 8 year old goes up at 7, we often let him read until 7.30/8. He also gets up quite early. Has been 7 lately but that's a lie in for him, usually between 6-6.30 am.

bed by 8 light out at 8;30 during the week. up 7:30.

My 4 and 7 year old both go up around 8.30 on a school night and have no set time on a weekend

8yo in bed by 8pm on a school night - we read together downstairs beforehand

On Saturday she's up until whenever the family-type TV finishes - so after The Voice at 9pm tonight, a little later if Dr Who's been on.

she still often needs waking at 7.45am, which is the latest we can leave her on a school morning, and I've told her that bedtime won't shift much while I still need to wake her in the AM.

I would say the length of sleep is more important than what time they go to bed.
Mine goes to bed at 8 on a school night and I wake her by 8 in the morning if she hasn't woken already

Wow some children go to bed so early! Does school tire them out? My 4yo isn't at school yet and would never be tired by 7!

Week nights I try and get her into bed and ready for sleep by about 8, preferably 7.30. We should be at the childminders by about 7.15 and she she a nightmare in the morning if she doesn't have enough sleep. If up to her she would sleep until at least 8 every day.

Weekends it can be any time depending on what we are doing and how much hard work they have been that day.

I aim for bed at 8pm, lights out 8.30pm for DS (7). He usually wakes about 7am. At weekends it's 30 mins later to bed. I don't want my DC up before 7am as I want to sleep.

Getting ready 7:30-7:45, asleep by 8-8:15. Early riser (6 something).

DS is almost 8yrs and wakes at 6.30am regardless of what time he goes to bed so to keep him from going feral he needs to be asleep well before 8pm, most nights stories are done and lights off for 7.30pm and it works for him / us. DD is nearly 5 she sleeps late so can cope with later nights as she will sleep gone 9am if she needs to / not a school day

Mine also 7 nearly eight, and is in bed by 8 every night - she does read until she's sleepy, so might not be asleep until half 8, but is also very good at putting herself to bed when she's tired. She went to bed at the same time as the nearly 6yr old tonight who's a different story entirely at 7pm.
