Time for bed at 7 nearly 8

Having an argument with DP...

I think they should be in bed sleeping by 8.30 (stories excluded)

What do mumsnetter think...

They do wake up super bloody early but I figure we deal with this and I'm not a monster I think occasionally it's ok for them to stay up a little late

But what time do people 7 year olds go to bed (sleep)

We have decided to reduce screen time over the next few weeks... Sneak it out on the little toads :)

Different situation but somewhat related We actually spent ten minutes the other week all sat in the dark after a "were not going to bed - we want iPad moments" "you do fun things once we go to bed" ( we really don't, we're so shattered) so everything was turned off and we sat in the dark for ten minutes until DP and me went upstairs and left them there giggling...

They soon were in bed :) didn't find it funny after a further five minutes and for two nights they have actually been tucked up earlier... Still waking up early though!

It depends how much sleep they need.

If my DS1 had gone to bed before about 8.30 at the earliest at that age, he would have been bouncing around at about 5am. DS2 could get away with going to bed about 8 and sleep through until he needed to get up at about 7. You have to consider whether your own child seems to be getting enough sleep, or showing you they need less by waking up early/not being ready to sleep when they go to bed.

DD 8, goes to bed at 8, gets up for school at 5:30

My 7yo goes to sleep at 21:00 and is awake at 06:30/07:00. It's all she needs, she's never been a long sleeper, dropped naps very young. Very active - she does gymnastics for an hour and swimming for half an hour on one day after school - same bedtime. Just how she is.

We actually think they are waking up so early because one wakes up and disturbs the other... They then get into mischief

We get alternate grumbles from them about one waking the other up, so next project is to give them their own rooms, one is less keen than the other :s but I think this with less screen time will work

The less screen time and the "we're not doing anything interesting" approach has helped

They are tired, when we have a baby sister we say bed asleep at 8.30 and they are - I think they generally have thought that we do exciting things without them!

Twins gang up on you the parents for sure!!
