Moving to West Yorkshire

Hi. Posting here for traffic.

Please can you help me find a place to live. Needs to be 45 minutes drive max to Wakefield. But not Wakefield.

I have a 19 month old and another due in June so a town with playgroup and soft play is ideal.

We don't want to move to a city and worry a village is too isolating as we will not know anyone. We love Harrogate.

Will be renting to begin with and budget is up to 1k a month.

I have seen mirfield but unsure about high street. Anywhere out there similar to Harrogate? Thanks x

Saltaire/baildon/Bingley is a nice area with lots going on for young families. Not sure what the commute to Wakefield would be, suspect it might be further than 45 min.

Huddersfield?
There are some crappy areas and it's certainly not Harrogate like in the centre but there are some nice areas too. The villages are generally quite big and not too far from teh Town centre so not too rural or isolated. We live near a village but it's 5 mins from the M62 and not really insular. Good schools near us ( although over subscribed ) and excellent transport links all over the place. Think Wakefield is about 20 minutes by car and 15 on the train.

I live in Knaresborough just outside of Harrogate and commute to Leeds for work. Love it

I was going to say Mirfield. My dh is from there. There are lots of nice places nearby and it's handy for the train to Leeds too.

I live in holywell green in halifax. Wakefield is about 40 mins drive as I am 5 mins from the motorway but that's at off peak times. It's a nice area and you get a lot of house for your money.

The hd8 area of Huddersfield. It's 20-30 minutes to wakefield. Rural but not so rural you feel isolated and the schools are good.
Plenty of playgroups in all the villages and a fairly decent soft play in skelmanthorpe.

Hello simply I use to live in Holywell Green - I really liked it. Nice restaurants down the hill these days too!!

I'm HD3 and I can walk to 2 softplays and at least 3 playgroups.

Really like it here, can be in Leeds or Manchester within 30-40 mins or out in the countryside in 10!!!

What's wrong with Wakefield?

Morley is quite nice and about half an hour commute. Maybe Garforth?

Good tips from hopping ill champion tother side. Clayton West, denby dale, skelmanthorpe. Not quite as built up as Lindley though. More rural but still plenty of amenities for young families.

Nothing wrong with Wakefield but we have an aversion to living where we actually work.

I used to work in Wakefield and there are some nice areas in Wakefield itself.

Some of the places suggested here show some pretty optimistic journey times. Basically you need to avoid travelling on the M62 or near the M1 M62 interchange because it is a nightmare during the rush hour. I used to commute to Wakefield from Pudsey, but there is no way that can be done in under 45 minutes during peak travel times now.

You could look at Scissett, Denby Dale, Upper Denby, Skelmanthorpe or the outskirts of Wakefield. Oops, I've just seen your post frikadela

YYYY to villages around Huddersfield, HD8. Nowhere as urban as Harrogate, but look at villages around Denby Dale, Shepley, Skelmanthorpe , Clayton West, Scissett - HD8 area. If you want small town rather than village, look at Holmfirth/Honley and Penistone. Holmfirth is probably the most Harrogate-y, but much smaller. All these places are about 30 mins or less to Wakefield City Centre.

I libe in the HD8 area and love it. We moved here accidentally 15 years ago, when our landlord sold our house in Sheffield and we needed somewhere to live. 2 children and many jobs later we are still here.... Lots of stuff going on for children. Loads of soft plays in all the old mills, lots of playgroups and preschool provision. Looking to the future - HD8 still has First/Middle/High schools, most of which are Outstanding.

Forgot to say also - altaire to Wakefield in 45 mins is extremely optimistic, and reliant on the smooth running of the M62 - which is also optimistic.

The other thing about HD8 and young families - all the villages are pretty close - and all have their own activities going on, but you can walk between the villages easy enough. And there are quite a few buses, if you don't drive.

I'm feeling incredibly homesick now... why did I fall in love with a man from bloody bradford. I vow to one day move back to the hd8 area... It really is a lovely place to live.

How much do you have to spend?

Have you been on the bottle dreamgirl? Ackworth is OK but Fitzwilliam and its surrounding villages are run down ex mining villages that need a lot of TLC. Fitzwilliam/Kinsley do have excellent train links however and therefore would be a good long time investment as the above has been recognised and they are now pumping money into the area.

No go's - Ryhill, Havercroft, some parts of Pontefract (behind the hospital), Hemsworth, South Elmsall, some parts of Huddersfield

OK areas if you are on a budget - Kinsley/Fitzwilliam, South Heindley, Upton, South Kirby, Crofton, Knottingly

More expensive areas - Walton, Sandal, Newmiller Dam, Ackworth (overpirced housing estate but each to their own), Wragby, Huddersfield, Darrington, Ackton (check spelling as not sure).

These areas are all to the south of wakefield, where I spent 15 years and still go back to frequently.
