to object to MNHQ forcing a MALE/FEMALE gender binary on my account.

I don't have any GENDER.

My MN account forces me to pick from two 'genders'.

I can't even opt out, it's a forced binary choice.

I'm not agender, pangender, cisgender, transgender, male gender, female gender or ANY GENDER.

If you want to know my sex, I am happy to provide that information. But you'll have to add that in as a field, because it doesn't exist currently.

Sex and gender are not the same thing. If you insist on collecting data by gender and making it a forced choice I would like an option as follows:

"Reject gender as a harmful, made up, bullshit concept".

Then when you analyse your account database you can say
X% identify as female gender
Y% identify as male gender
Z% reject gender as a bullshit concept.

AIBU to request MNHQ to alter my account details so that they do not misrepresent me?

Venus - the case was brought by Angela Ames, I can't link on my phone.

TheSecondViola · 15/01/2016 12:44

Gender isn't bullshit just because it is socially constructed, its been a construct ever since there was society to construct it. It's deepy embedded in the human experience. Gender is like time.
You can't just decide that gender is bullshit because its now the 21st century and we're all fluid and you say you don't have a gender. Well bully for you. It's an incredibly naive and arrogant notion.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 15/01/2016 12:44

.... and another one who doesn't get it!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/01/2016 12:45

Chromosomes aren't as simple as X and Y. There's so much more to biology than XX / XY. There's even the new science of epigenetics.

Biologically speaking sex is binary. You really can't argue about that - there are various birth defects that may create outliers, but we do not argue that we are not a bipedal species because some people are born without legs.

dratsea · 15/01/2016 12:45

HLC I often did not make the diagnosis first time, sometimes got it wrong again next time, rarely failed totally but did fail. I think I did OK and probably marginally better with ascertaining sex, (have already admitted to my one failure surprise.)

HairyLittleCarrot · 15/01/2016 12:45

MNHQ already considering it due to this thread, dulcet.

I do not understand your post dratsea

Gender is like time.

On a population level time is not a reason for disadvantaging roughly 50% of the population.

Time is measurable (speed the earth spins at etc), gender is not.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/01/2016 12:50

So why then, does every bone in my body tell me I'm wrong and my body is wrong? I'm not talking about "gender roles" - but my body. My brain is telling me my body is wrong.

Isn't this body dismorphia?

I think dratsea is suggesting part of of his job was to diagnose the gender of babies, along with the sex. And claims to have been successful at least part of the time. How this information would come about, I do not know. I suspect we're still not talking about the same thing. Unless he has taken part in one hell of a longitudinal study.

HairyLittleCarrot · 15/01/2016 12:53

Ego
I can't answer your question, I don't know why.

But the facts remain, we do not share a common sex.
We do not share a common gender.

And yet the law is moving faster than I can stop it to proclaim that ego and carrot share a sex/gender category in common and must be grouped together.

And I am resisting this. Not because of you personally, but because I NEED my category of female biology not to be erased.

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 15/01/2016 12:53

Yes. But what's the cause? Genetics? Epigenetics? Hormone influences in utero?

Something that's not understood yet?

This is going to sound terrible, but is it in any way relevant to this thread, in that case?

whatdoIget · 15/01/2016 12:54

Is body dysmorphia linked to childhood abuse, neglect etc?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/01/2016 12:54

I'd go for something that is not understood yet, and its a really interesting subject.

How do you know that not feeling what you think a man should feel, means that what you feel is more like a woman?

HairyLittleCarrot · 15/01/2016 12:58

My point is - how do you know what someone's sex is?
You just told me, Ego.

Facts vs feelings.

OP posts:
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/01/2016 12:58

It means that your sex is male (as you said you have fathered a child etc) , but something (as yet undetermined) means you identify as female.

I think it's fairly clear what point people are making, ego. I get that you don't agree for personal reasons and I respect your opinion, but you surely can understand this point?

I totally understand that some men feel that they are "not man"". But that doesn't automatically mean that they are women, or that society should just accept them as such. Or that they should be allowed in women only safe spaces.

Anyone born male can have no concept of what it feels like to be born and raised a woman. Maybe we need new pronouns. I'm deplore any discrimination against trans people but I will not accept

Feminism isn't 100 years old yet and now men have moved in telling us we're doing it wrong.

They can fuck right off.

RidersOnTheStorm · 15/01/2016 13:04
