AIBU about neighbours dog?

A neighbour has a dog which he seems to let out early in the morning (poo time or whatever) in his garden near to us. Sometimes this is at 7am but sometimes it's before at 6.45am. The dog appears to be trained to bark to ask to be let in the house. We don't get up till 7.15 and sometimes are woken by the dog. We have asked him once nicely to stop and he made no comment - took no notice- anything we should do if it carries on?

I doubt the dog is trained to bark. He will just do it.

Depends if he's barking for ages or just a few barks I guess.

it doesn't bark for long but tbh is that the point? it's become an alarm clock we don't want!

Well I wouldn't leave my back door open for ten mins while the dog is in the garden. House would be freezing.

It doesn't reqiure the door to be left wide open - you can leave a door 1 inch ajar and the dog could push it open and come in. Or a responsible owner would wait by the door and open it for the dog.

When you have close neighbours you have to accept that there will be some noise. I don't think that a dog barking for a short period of time is that big a problem. If the dog was barking all day that would be another matter.

I think the time of day is an issue. It's before 7am. I think environmental health would class this as a nuisance.

evidently night noise is between 11pm and 7am- he's sailing close to the wind. Barking dogs are classed as a nuisance by info found online.

YABU. It's a dog, and it's not the middle of the night! My dog does exactly the same thing, as do most dogs. I resent the implication that I am somehow 'irresponsible' because I don't stand by the door for 15 mins while my dog goes in my garden for a wander and a wee. This isn't irresponsible.

Noise from other people is part and parcel of life. If you don't like it then maybe you should move to a more rural location. Though I warn you, I live rurally, and the field of cows opposite can be pretty noisy sometimes...perhaps I should get environmental health to speak to the farmer...

My last dog Id wait by the door but he was quick, run out have a wee and back.

Current dog is ages bumbling about and I don't have time in the morning to wait by the door for her. I'm getting ready for work, getting kids ready. Luckily she doesn't often bark but even if she did I wouldn't leave the door open. Doors open outwards not inwards so a dog couldn't push their way in. I haven't met a dog clever enough to hook their paw round an ajar door and pull it.

So yes if that meant my dog barked occassionally at 6:45 am then bad luck.

Neighbour's one side their dog barks. Neighbour the other side we're often woken by their side gate which requires a load of rattling to open. Or their teen sons motorbike which im sure he's modified to make it noisier.

The joys of having neighbours. You can't expect peace and silence. Dog isn't incesscently barking, no revving cars, loud music. Environmental health would laugh their socks off. They don't even care about my corner shop having bread deliveries by a noisy lorry at 6:15.

If the dog barks once or twice & then waits to be let in (as my neighbour's dog does) then it's fine.
If it's barking for 15 mins cos the owner has gone back to bed then it's not fine

This won't end well OP! You'll have lots of replies telling you the dog has a right (or possibly even a need) to bark if it wants to and you just have to suck it up.

As you've already spoken to your neighbour, I would now send him a polite note explaining that his dog's barking is adversely impacting on your life. If it still doesn't stop get in touch with the relevant department at your council and ask them to have a word.

If that doesn't work I suggest you take up playing a bugle and go outside to play it for a short while every morning at a time when you know your neighbour is still asleep. He might get the message then.

There are a huge number of very selfish dog owners who think it's ok for others to suffer because of their decision to keep a dog.

if they left the dog outside barking for ages I'd agree with you, but it sounds like that are a kind, responsible owner who lets their dog in as soon as they are aware it wants to come in.

Do you not have double glazing? It seems strange to be woken by a dog bark? There are all sorts of things far louder that could wake you that time of the morning (bin collectors, cars starting)

Yabu, a bark or two at 7.00 I just don't see as a problem. Especially as you get up at 7.15 anyway.

boopsy- My back door opens outwards, I think you'll find Tha most patio doors do, and if people let their dogs out the back door (which would be a pretty standard thing to do!), then there's a good chance they will be outward opening patio doors. I've never seen a patio door that opens inwards?!

Our back doors open outwards.

Yabu. A few barks is within normal noise levels.

If you plan on following the advice to complain, just make sure you are a very quiet household. Few of my neighbours have dogs that do similar, but then again most people make some sort of noise, whether that's car/ van engines late or early, kids, screaming toddlers, a party, workmen etc.

Tbh 6.30-7 seems to be a common time to let dogs out round here in the garden, and most houses tend to have people up at that time, so I doubt your neighbour considers it an anti social time
