AIBU about neighbours dog?

A neighbour has a dog which he seems to let out early in the morning (poo time or whatever) in his garden near to us. Sometimes this is at 7am but sometimes it's before at 6.45am. The dog appears to be trained to bark to ask to be let in the house. We don't get up till 7.15 and sometimes are woken by the dog. We have asked him once nicely to stop and he made no comment - took no notice- anything we should do if it carries on?

I don't have a dog but you're BU.
7AM isn't in the middle of the night. It's not like you will suffer from sleep deprivation for waking up at 7AM, unless you're going to sleep at 1 or 2AM.

WaitrosePigeon · 28/04/2016 14:48

You don't have a leg to stand on, I'm afraid.

Our neighbours let their massive Dalmatian out at 6am at it does a big deep 'woof' each time. If it wakes me up I just go back to sleep for half an hour.

There was a very annoying barking howling next door to me for a while. Massive argument erupted between owner and our another neighbours. Council got involved, and police, and housing association. Dog was gone next day.
Luckily for me I could stand back whilst peace was restored.
Yanbu, barking dogs are annoying

You basically don't like the neighbour. He's a manual worker lowering the tone of your naice conservation area who has 'flouted planning regulations twice' (how do you know?)

You're looking for some way to stick the boot in and you've decided his dog barking for one minute is the thing.

YABU. You sound like Hyacinth Bucket.

ps I have 5 doors on my house. All but one of them open outwards.

I try to wait for my dog but if she is buggering about and sniffing everything I close the door then she barks - one woof usually to be let in. 7am isn't that early though, at least three people in my street go to work much earlier than that and I get woken by their cars running to defrost in winter, I wouldn't complain though.

Those foxes that bloody woke me up the other night making a racket are a different matter though! Who do I complain to? Grin

This thread has given me the rage. How is it OK to be awoken by a dog barking every bloody day. I've had several dogs in my life, not one of them barked to be let in, they were all trained not to. If you can't train a dog you shouldn't bloody well have a dog. And if you can't train one but you're still irresponsible enough to buy one then I don't give a flying duck how cold your house gets, LEAVE THE FUCKING DOOR OPEN!!!!!!

Yukduck · 28/04/2016 16:23

We have a dog.

Our neighbours one side have two dogs. They bark at eachother (just a bark or two, not a full on fence attack!), when in the respective gardens at the same time. We all (neighbours and I) do our best to keep this to a minimum but if the dog wants to go out at 6am and next door's does too, they will give a bark through the fence. No one has complained yet but we dread it as we feel our dog does not start it (and neighbours probably think the same!).
Our other neighbours have a son who is an electrician. He starts work sometimes 5am or 6am when he jumps in his white van and goes off to work with a lot of banging and chugging. We like our window open but his van is parked just outside our bedroom window (we live in a bungalow). He wakes us up most mornings. It is like he is in the room with us!
Sometimes he wakes our dog who then wants to go out for a pee and a bark at the neighbour's dog the other side.
We groan and just suck it up.

We like living in our road as all the people are friendly and nice. You have to live and let live or move on.
That is the trade off for not being rich enough to own a mansion in its own grounds miles from anyone!

If you make you neighbour feel miserable by complaining it may come back to bite you.

fifitrixibellethe1st · 28/04/2016 16:24

Or, at the very least, buy a door-stop that's not so heavy the dog can't push the door open

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 28/04/2016 16:30

Sparklycat - you don't live in a city beginning with C do you? Blush

My Dalmatian is a barker and I'm constantly on edge about it, worrying about the neighbours.

Why has this thread been bumped again? Confused
Don't get me wrong, we all had a lovely time counting our doors and everything but that was back in January.

HoneyDragon · 28/04/2016 16:39

Are you rudely awaken by the dustmen MrsDv? Do they make you put your trousers in and think about leaving the house?

musicposy · 28/04/2016 16:49

Oh dear. I try very hard not to be guilty of this but I think I must be sometimes. I try to let our dogs out for last wee by 11 and not again until after 7am but we do have occasional days one whines at 6.30 and I don't want it on the floor inside. One of ours is a rescue who has taken nearly 2 years to get fully continent and I know the least excuse to pee in the house and we will be set back a few months.

I have to shut the door because if I don't, dog already mentioned does not toilet but sees it is cold/ rainy/ not quite precisely the right temperature outside and will run back in and pee on the floor, encouraging the other three to run in too. If I go out with them they see that as big excitement and are more likely to make noise!

I usually wait by the door inside but occasionally the getting up has me desperate for a wee too so I go quickly whilst they are out. I then hear our Jack Russell cross (who is NOT trained to bark to come in but is naturally a very vocal and demanding dog) barking because she is finished and I have to leg it off the loo to run and let her in. Luckily almost all our neighbours also have dogs and many are way worse than ours!

OP, it sounds as though the general inconsiderateness of your neighbours is making this a bit "straw that broke the camels back" when in reality it may be very hard for them to do anything else.

Me too! I tend not to read the top date - maybe I need to!

Am I alone in wondering how these long dead threads get reanimated?

I can understand if it was a question about DIY, pregnancy or such like, something people will be googling. But this one.....

Yukduck · 28/04/2016 18:08

Blindsided by the old January post too!
Hope the OP has caught up on sleep by now!
