i just don't get it!

it actually makes me abit sad, signifying the end of Christmas.

Honestly what is it about the forced jollity? Its another year -whoopie.

we make resolutions we know we wont stick to and there is mass hysteria at midnight. Then nothing actually happens Hmm

Im not a grinch. i am a bit of a home body but quite happy for there to be a party if there is. a reason for it.

I hate it. I've hated it for as long as I can remember which is a bloody long time.

Just reminds me of bad times. I would like to be in bed around normal time. I just do not see the point.

I'm totally with you.

I remember going out when younger and getting completely infuriated that there would be twice the amount of people and twice the price for everything.

Now it just signifies that I have to go back to work soon.

When i was growing up NYE always meant my mam/neighbours etc getting drunk. I do not (and never have) drank alcohol. So to me it just brings back bad memories of that. I do not see anything good about it. NYD means another big meal in my family but otherwise, its just a normal day.

I used to love it when I was younger. I always went to a club or a party.

Once I hit about 30, I got bored with it so now we have a night at home, playing board games with the kids.

I still love the sound of parties and fireworks going on around me though.

It's nice to hear people still enjoying it.

I don't get it. I've never gone out for NYE. I always stay home. Sometimes I last til midnight, mostly not haha. I'm not really a party person/boozy person and so it gets lost on me.

I'm usually asleep by 10. In fact can't remember the last time I was up at midnight NYE.

oh we haven't been out since 2000 and even that was rubbish 😂

i always feel i have to stay up nut honestly? i just want my bed.

i happily covered for a friend at work this afternoon so she could get sorted for going out. I'll be happier working.

It's never been my cup of tea either, but it doesn't annoy me if other people want to enjoy it.

I am looking forward to a fresh start with the new year, and putting this year behind me. It has probably been the most hectic year of my life, and my feet haven't touched the ground since last year. We've had close family weddings, close family births, and close family illness and death. We've had a million appointments for ds, who had to have an operation. I'm very hopeful for the new year, that things will calm down a little bit in my life, and I'll be able to take the time to stop and look around me every once in a while. Last year was an extremely fast roller coaster, and I'm hoping for next year to be more of a gentle boat ride. Happy New Year to you all.

I like it because it's kicking the backside of this god awful year. A bit of hope that the next one won't be the hard slog the past 3 have been maybe Grin

In fact, the last time was probably about 12 years ago, when MIL rang us up at 5 to 12 to wish us happy new year, then decided to tell us dps childhood cat had died a few weeks ago (so could she not have told us before now, or waited a few days!!??) Kinda killed the mood.

I'm sorry for anyone who has bad memories but I love Hogmanay (Scottish).

Hogmanay has always been as important as Christmas in my family (and no, we don't all get blootered).

Hogmanay means getting together with friends for a big, happy party. Finally going to bed when the sun gets up and lying in until late. A family meal in the evening and the 2nd off to recover.

In days gone by Scotland only celebrated New Year, my grandparents used to give me my presents on the 1st rather than on Christmas Day.

I'm a bit on the fence about it. I don't like the ramped-up jollity and the media message that if I'm not partying with lots off people it means I'm a bit sad.

On the other hand, I enjoy the idea of a fresh start for a new year and celebrating that.

We'll be going out with DC for a nice meal early evening and then seeing it in at home with a bit of fizz (rarely drink) and some board games if I can persuade them.

We could walk to a vantage point to see the central London fireworks for midnight but I suspect we won't going by past form...

I always hated it. Hated it as a youngster, with the pressure of having to find somewhere 'great' to go and have 'fun' on NYE. Hated it for most my adulthood, as all it meant was having to pretend I was going to give up smoking again Grin.

But I actually really like it these days. I think it started when I really DID give up smoking 3 years ago and passed my driving test (both NY's resolutions) and realised I could use NY as a chance to decide how I wanted to live my life to some degree, and make real changes. Last NYE I resolved to get fit - and I did it! Went from couch potato to training 4 times a week. So i feel excited more than anything about the whole thing, now.

I've got a nice list typed up of the things I want to do this year and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in.

I'm also going out tonight for the first time in 10 years on NYE, and its a party with nice music and nice people, that (happily) ends at 1am and is 10 minutes from home...so hassle free and no pressure.

I remember one NYE when I ended up kissing a guy I'd fancied for 3 years! Otherwise they've all been a bit blah, especially 1999/2000 (I was pregnant so wouldn't have been drunk anyway, but it was just the biggest anti climax).

This year DP has asked if he and his DCs should come round, but I've had such a busy week with family dinners and meet ups all over the place, so I'm just looking forward to a lazy day, a bit of peace and not having to actually DO anything! If I'm still up at midnight I will FaceTime him as it seems rude not to, but it really means nothing to me. It's just an arbitrary number.
