AIBU?

To think I'll be able to get a sodding turkey?

Doing the second half of the big Xmas shop tomorrow morning. DH is convinced turkey will be sold out everywhere and there'll be none to be found. I think there'll be plenty and he's being a paranoid knob (also, it's a turkey, big fucking deal). Who is right?

you without a doubt - but get there early just to be certain!

I reckon you'll be able to get one somewhere! Obviously not an artisan butcher's shop, but last year and the year before when I picked up my turkey on Christmas Eve morning, Waitrose had lots on sale as well. And there are always people who miss their slot to collect a pre ordered Turkey - they put those ones on sale too.

Go early though or your dh might be right.

Was just in supermarket and found myself complaining to dh about the lack of smoked salmon. Hmm

What a bloody stupid first world problem.

Psst there were very few parsnips either so again go early.

And if you don't get a turkey, buy two chickens. Christmas won't be ruined.

There's a slight risk that they'll be sold out but only very slight. If I was cooking for 17 including Nigella Lawson I wouldn't risk it. If it's just your nuclear family and the world won't come to an end if you have a large chicken instead then go for it.

My local Waitress have had them down to about £4-5 towards the end of Christmas Eve for the last 2 years. I always hover and kick myself for having ordered one full price weeks in advance!

you'll be fine as long as you don't have something very particular in mind.
one Christmas Eve I saw a wild-eyed man running from counter to counter at Smithfield Market demanding an organic Kelly Bronze. All the butchers laughed like drains, and told him his best bet was to trot off to Tesco for a bog-standard supermarket turkey.

Tesco seem to have reduced turkeys on Xmas Eve afternoon yearly and crazy reductions on desserts, but there is normally a crowd around the poor staff member doing the mark downs.

The daft thing is there's only 4 adults and a toddler, and 2 of the adults are veggie anyway! And he doesn't even like turkey that much. He's just got a bee in his bonnet about it because it's Christmas. To the point where he's saying we should go to tesco now and get one. I'm one of the veggies and think this is a ridiculous faff over a bloody turkey

Sainsbury's today at about 3, lots of turkeys (frozen and fresh) still there. Only thing in short supply was smoked salmon, got one of the last and had been sold out in Waitrose the day before (although they prob got another delivery today). What are you having, veggie-wise?
