To find christmas work parties a bit sleazy. . .

Do you? I happy to be shouted down on this but I am starting to wonder. . .I have been to a few of these bring a party to a party things and a few work leaving doos and I find everyone gets a bit carried away. Men who I usually like and respect start to get a bit over friendly and give me the creeps by being a bit touchy feely or a bit personal. Then there is the dancing- two members of staff basically simulated a sex act on the dance floor- the sleazy music that was being played didnt help we had getting giggy with it sex bomb sex is on fire do u think Im sexy! Im no prude but its a bit cringe! I've also been to a party where u had to play games like pass the balloon etc which all got a bit ick as well. I love the chance to socialise with work people but it always gets weird, I see it as an extension of work in a way and wouldnt want to get too pissed and do someting I regretted!

I agree, so usually leave early

Our receptionidt always got her boobs out, then was mortified fir maybe a day, then she'd do it again.

My old boss had a threesome with two of the employees at the last Christmas party. In an alley way. He's married with a baby. Gross guy, so yeah I think they're sleazy too haha

I have been to the xmas parties you describe and always made an excuse to leave early. But the job I am in now does very respectable, low key christmas outings that aren't really parties as such, but just a really super top notch meal and an afternoon trip somewhere that's a bit educational.

Some people care a lot about xmas parties as its their chance to get really done up, let their hair down and get off with people they have fancied for ages. And that's fine but YANBU to feel like you do!

I work at a school now so ours are lovely and tame, just wine and singing and huge sighs of relief at the end of term!

I worked in finance for a long time and the parties were vile. Even the directors would engage in stuff that was - at best - creepy. Everyone bangs on about work parties, the reality is they make my bum clench.

YANBU to feel uncomfortable at what you are describing.
Leave early if you must attend.

sounds bloody awful.

to cut a long story short, i think that if people wanted to socialise with people from work then they would ... and not feel the need to go loopy at a christmas party.

do you HAVE to go? or can you say that you've got a special night in planned with your rabbit (battery operated, not fluffy eared) which should shut them up (hopefully)

I stayed sober for mine, being warned what some people were like. I was offered coke, propositioned by two men old enough to be my dad and our MD was heckled (not in a humorous way) during their speech. All before 11pm. I left early on that basis.

One of our senior team threatened to shoot someone at the Christmas meal, then threw a chair at a group of lads who weren't with our group. I am so glad I missed that one.

My xmas do was fine, a few drinks and a meal in a pub followed by a quiz....

My DH's are always fine too.

Also, you are a bit of a prude. Those songs aren't raunchy really. Getting jiggy with it is, but the other two? Nah.

Our was fine this year. Night in Surrey, lovely meal, free booze and food, lots of laughs.

Last year the bosses' wife accused him of shagging the accountant and then face planted a table full of cocktails Grin

I've been to a lot of Christmas parties. Swimming pools full of booze has been drunk at them, many last trains home have been missed, horrendous hangovers have been earned and I assume that the occasional pair of single people have copped off, but I've never been to one that felt sleazy in the way you described. The worst I ever witnessed in twenty years was some wit looking at my shoes and saying "you know what they say about red shoes...?" (Ewwwww)

You need a better class of workmate.

I'm missing the one with my old team due to work unfortunately. The one I'm going to with one of my new teams is just a few drinks followed by a curry.

Haha! Perhaps thats what had got into my otherwise respectable boss- he was doing his best David Brent impression! No not a call centre Local Authority. Ok glad I am not alone- we had a receptionist who flashed her knickers! Well thats it all over for another year and probably when it comes around next time I'll forget how bloody awful they are!

To clarify the thing about the music- the dj and the band was all like come on everyone you know you want to etc I just found that a bit trashy or something!

I no longer go to work parties. I always end up terribly drunk and even though other people are worse I still make a fool of myself. I'm usually sick at some point (once it was public :( ) as I don't drink often. But others I've seen urinate in the street, cop off with managers and married men, fighting, shouting at police. It's like they forget that the next day things go back to normal and you have to go back to working with these people.

Yours does sound a bit sleazy. Don't these people feel embarrassed?!

The worst thing about mine is they insist on some "team building" activity. They are running out of ideas and it's getting progressively more random this year to the extent that I can't say it on here as it would out me

I am so glad that the only employer I have had so far has rather tame Christmas parties.

In my opinion, such parties should include delicious food, maybe some cookies, a little wine, if any alcohol at all, and respectable Christmas songs as music.

Sleazyness goes so completely against the Christian meaning of Christmas that even I as an agnostic am offended by the mere idea of it.

They can be, ime.

I've had quite a few jobs and far and away my favourite office Christmas parties have been fabulous lunches in very posh restaurants, no going back to the office afterwards, heading for home on a 4pm train.
