Fucking Christmas duvets??

I LOVE Christmas, so this is in no way a bah humbug thing, but does anyone else think it's getting way out of hand? Every year there is a new "thing"; Christmas jammies, Christmas eve boxes, advent calendar with actual toys (eg lego ones, playdoh ones etc), elf on the shelf, 24 advent Christmas books and now I see there are bloody Christmas duvet sets! When did these all become "traditions"? Only in the last 5 years? I sound like my mother! Christmas has become over-commercialised! AIBU or is it expensive enough without having to add to the expense! Imagine if you have more than 1 child! Is it competitive parenting? Is it over-compensation for shit parenting? Am I just being an old cow? Sorry I just saw the Christmas duvet tonight and it's proved to be my tipping point.

Link please? Grin

I just wanted to remind you that in your rant, you have forgotten the "Elf on the Shelf" shit. You're welcome. Grin

TheHouseOnTheLane · 08/11/2015 23:49

They were around at least 2 years ago. You don't HAVE to do it.

I got two from Wilkinsons for about 7 quid each though!

TheHouseOnTheLane · 08/11/2015 23:50

Mrs no she didn't! She mentioned Elf on the shelf.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/11/2015 23:51

Oh no, I saw you included it! That gives me the biggest rage. But I do like Noradsanta. And I have Christmas towels with Mr Claus and Mrs Claus on them. Just shoot me now.

TheHouseOnTheLane · 08/11/2015 23:51

I'm getting Christmas cushions this year too! Grin

CalleighDoodle · 08/11/2015 23:53

Theyre not traditions. They are just things to do. The Human Rights Act specifically says, Citizens have the right to pick and choose which elements of a traditional or non-traditional Christmas they want to practice.
This means you dont have to stress about a duvet cover, as you have a choice whether or not to buy it. I might Be paraphrasing.

Thally · 08/11/2015 23:53

I'm with you, loads of the stuff you mention is crap. It's like Christmas has to be bigger every year. My particular hates are presents on Christmas eve (unless you celebrate Christmas on 24th) and elf on the shelf. I'm not religious but it does somewhat move away from the point and it just becomes completely commercial.

reni2 · 08/11/2015 23:53

Are there Christmas tampons yet? Could be a gap in the market. What about hohoho loo roll?

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/11/2015 23:54

I already have Christmas cushions! And tablecloths. In fact we have Santa all year round as it's the only cloth that fits.

CalleighDoodle · 08/11/2015 23:54

(My mum had a father christmas' face toilet lid cover)

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 08/11/2015 23:55

I warned DH yesterday that if we won the lottery he'd come home from work to find the entire house naff-Christmas-ified.

Inflatable snowmen and Santas on the front lawn, light up reindeer on the roof, Xmas bathroom mats, entire crockery changed for Xmas versions and of course a Xmas duvet cover.

Brilliant. Grin

sandylion · 08/11/2015 23:56

Don't get me wrong, I love the season to be jolly! I decorate on December 1st and plan waaaay in advance snapping up bargains, planning Christmas dinner and so on. I can get on board with Christmas cushions. I think it's all the extra stuff for kids that bugs me. They get so much as it is!

I absolutely LOVE Christmas but I'm with Sandylion on this. It's getting out of hand. Thank goodness my DC are a little older and I don't have to invent any traditions. I think we have enough old fashioned ones, thank you.

MrsS elflf on the shelf (whatever that is) is third line down on Sandys original post.

I also see that we should all now have Christmas cushions, now. Hmm

NellyTimes · 08/11/2015 23:57

Cor, they're lucky kids getting a book every day for an advent calendar. Every parents child's dream I should think...

I don't like the Christmas Eve hampers, the best thing about Christmas is the excitement and anticipation over the present opening. Surely that takes a bit of shine off of Christmas morning.
"We always put a toothbrush in ours". More lucky children..

PrimalLass · 08/11/2015 23:57

I've bought Christmas duvets this year

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 08/11/2015 23:57

Oh and almost forgot, a shit load of these bad boys.

Fucking Christmas duvets??

IDismyname · 08/11/2015 23:58

I can't believe I've x posted with so many of you!

NellyTimes · 09/11/2015 00:00

That must be pretty expensive too, having to buy 24 books. Is that per child or do they have to share the misery joy?

FeedMyFaceWithJaffaCakes · 09/11/2015 00:02

What the hell is elf in the shelf!?

Just wondering if I want one,

sandylion · 09/11/2015 00:03

Per child I expect! It's been shared on fb walls with "must do this".

My granny used to just say "ooh that's the gnomes rattling, they are watching you". Creepy as fuck. The original elf on the shelf!

Tampons? Pine scented of course!
Printed with 'Merry Xmas' for light days and 'We wish you a merry Christmas' for heavy?
