Fucking Christmas duvets??

I LOVE Christmas, so this is in no way a bah humbug thing, but does anyone else think it's getting way out of hand? Every year there is a new "thing"; Christmas jammies, Christmas eve boxes, advent calendar with actual toys (eg lego ones, playdoh ones etc), elf on the shelf, 24 advent Christmas books and now I see there are bloody Christmas duvet sets! When did these all become "traditions"? Only in the last 5 years? I sound like my mother! Christmas has become over-commercialised! AIBU or is it expensive enough without having to add to the expense! Imagine if you have more than 1 child! Is it competitive parenting? Is it over-compensation for shit parenting? Am I just being an old cow? Sorry I just saw the Christmas duvet tonight and it's proved to be my tipping point.

I have been clicking on links for christmas tat essentials all day. All the kingsize duvet sets are sold out that I can find :(

Darvany · 12/11/2015 22:26

I bought DS a Christmas jumper (well, sweatshirt) from asda earlier. It's for the school Christmas Jumper day so the most wear out of it he'll get out of it is that, a couple of weekend days in December and Christmas day.

I do buy some Christmas things but the jumper thing is very wasteful imo. I'd boycott but who wants their child to feel different or left out?

Darvany · 12/11/2015 22:28

Please excuse typos and repetition. I am de-cluttering the wine rack.

trixymalixy · 12/11/2015 23:57

I always buy the Christmas jumpers big. DS will be wearing the same one for the 3rd year in a row. Then it'll get passed on to my nephew.

Dad's is age 4-6 from h&m so hopefully that'll do her a few years too.

A Christmas washing up brush? I am worryingly interested..........please tell more!

fourkids · 13/11/2015 15:54

It isn't a new fangled thing though. I had a BF in the late 80s/early 90s whose mum decorated the whole house for Christmas. TBH I can't remember all the detail but there was def a Christmas shower curtain...

and I have some Christmas tea towels. My Gran gave them to me about 20 years ago. I am v non-traditional and use them all year round. Actually they are a bit tatty. Maybe I'll bin them in January...

CiderwithBuda · 13/11/2015 16:04

MrsDeVere - Christmas doilies?? Can you link please? I had a look but couldn't find them.

I bought Christmas tea towels today too. And some decorations. I spotted .christmas washing up brushes but thought DH might have me committed!

Anaffaquine1 · 13/11/2015 16:08

It is just another way for people to spend a ridiculous amount of money at Christmas.
We always got new pjs at Christmas but not Christmas themed and they had to do until my birthday in July!

Anaffaquine1 · 13/11/2015 16:34

My SIL got very upset about me using a Christmas bib on my dd in March. She said it should be for Christmas only. By this year, she wouldn't need them!
I'm will further annoy her by using a Halloween top until it doesn't fit. This will blow Sil's mind.
Her house looks like a grotto for all of December.
Last year she bought hundreds of pounds on Christmas crockery. More money than sense I think.

CiderwithBuda · 13/11/2015 17:05

I always got DS Xmas pjs but not Xmas themed ones. He is now 14. Today I bought him Xmas themed ones. Xmas Grin just to see his face.

Badders123 · 13/11/2015 17:43

Does anyone know where I can get Xmas scented handsoap?
Like cinnamon, orange, mint etc?

StampyMum · 13/11/2015 19:05

You guys are the frigging cutest! Today I bought a reindeer onesie and Christmas socks [santa]

notquitehuman · 13/11/2015 21:40

The supermarkets should all have their Christmas hand soaps in. Last year I got the Method mulled wine foam hand wash and it made my hands smell lovely!

imwithspud · 13/11/2015 22:08

I've already got both dd's Christmas Day outfits sorted, I usually leave it far to late when there's hardly anything cute left.

Badders123 · 14/11/2015 09:20

Thank you.
I am off to aldi later to purchase the snowman loo rolls and kitchen towel :)
Dh thinks I have lost the plot.

Dionysuss · 14/11/2015 09:26
