I've got a hankering for readybrek, ah I love readybrek could live off the stuff in the winter months!!

Tho I always feel a bit guilty having it for breakfast, does anyone think that it's more like a dessert, esp with a dollop of Nutella?
It's so similar to semolina! Obviously not a huge quandary, but i want to talk about Ready Brek.

Yummy yum yum in my tum....

Bloody love it. We had butterscotch flavour as kids in the 70s. Happy days. They don't make that any more Haloween Sad

SquinkiesRule · 27/10/2015 22:19

Mmm I could live on Readybrek too. The Aldi one is good. I put a blob of Golden syrup in.

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 27/10/2015 22:24

Am I the only one that likes cold watery ready-brek

WotNoLoobrush · 28/10/2015 21:49

Looks like you might be GreaterSmile

TinklyLittleLaugh · 29/10/2015 00:14

Hmm so if I blitz my cheapo porage oats in the magimix, will I get something I can use instantly like Ready Brek?

Possibly outing myself now, but the Ready Brek ad, many decades ago, was made in our village.

Unreasonablebetty · 29/10/2015 00:29

I bet you'd end up with something very similar!!

My husband got me a box last night, in our house we've eaten readybrek twice in one day... So yummy!
Smile (I must point out DD has tonsillitis and it's one of the v few things she's happy to try and eat today!!)
Thank God for readybrek or the poor little more wouldn't have eaten much at all today.

We've ran out of Nutella this evening,, so might be having honey/ cinnamon/ sugar with mine in the morning.

I get a pack of dark chocolate drops (meant to use for baking cakes) and sprinkle a few on top. They melt in and give just enough chocolatey sweetness.

kali110 · 29/10/2015 02:57

Why do we not have a sick emoticon??

circlelake · 29/10/2015 03:12

The one I liked in the 80s was called Golden Brek and had a super sweet taste. We loved the chocolate stuff too and yes you can get it now. :)

The DC love it. I had a bowl for breakfast recently, it's still good. Drinking chocolate powder in plain stuff does the job too.

I'd never heard about the 'dangers' of Ready Brek rumour until I read it here. I googled the news story at the time, poor wee baby being fed gravy etc. :( It really is just fine milled oats and I think some added vitamins.

winkywinkola · 31/10/2015 07:50

I've tried blitzing oats in a food processor to make ready brek. It doesn't work.

BrianButterfield · 31/10/2015 08:25

We get the own brand stuff - I can't stand it and it turns my stomach even to dish it out but DC love it! I much prefer real porridge; I hate that mushy bland smooth texture. I'm not a fussy eater at all but the only time I ever got into bother at school was refusing to eat my semolina! Give me rice pudding with nice lumps in instead!

chrome100 · 31/10/2015 08:26

YABU. It tastes and looks like wallpaper paste.

Topseyt · 31/10/2015 09:19

Perhaps that was why wallpaper never worked for us.

We didn't plaster Ready Brek onto the back of it.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 31/10/2015 18:04

Aw Winky how disappointing. Do you just get thin uncooked porage?

winkywinkola · 02/11/2015 10:56

No, Tinkly. It goes all lumpy and horrid. Not at all like the finely milled stuff we love.

ArcheryAnnie · 02/11/2015 11:01

One of the reasons I got so fat during pregnancy is that I was constantly eating porridge - but with crushed up digestives and greek yoghurt mixed in. It was creamy and crunchy and it totally hit the spot - but for health purposes I might as well have been eating lard.

Mmmm, porridge.

FeelingSmurfy · 04/11/2015 18:44

Late to this, but cocopops do a porridge now which is basically chocolate ready brek

I used to love the chocolate one then they replaced it with normal with choc chips - not the same!

For me its either chocolate as it is or normal with sugar

Stormtreader · 06/11/2015 14:08

Im another one for a good layer of brown sugar on the top, nothing beats it when its cold outside!

FeelingSmurfy · 06/11/2015 14:13

I ended up having a big bowl of coco pops ready brek last night, been on my mind since reading this!
