My 20 month year old hates the pram just screams and screams, he's only quiet if he's eating in the pram but as soon as his foods finished he screams for more! If we're out for a few hours I can't keep constantly feeding himShock he scoffs it really quick to, it's not as if he's hungry as he's usually just had lunch or breakfast etc.
Even if I get him out the pram he won't walk with me he will scream and cling on to my legs! So j pick him up and Hel scream to get back down but cling to my legs again! This scream sounds like a proper tantrum scream, and the looks I get from some people really put me of taken him anywhere!
I have no idea what's wrong with him, everyone asks what's wrong is he ok but I dknt have a clue why he's doing it lolHmm

Iv tried changing him, taken his coat of, putting it back on sitting him on a blanket, putting blankets on him etc he's fine as soon as he's out of the pram in the car, on short trips to like the school run he's ok and if we go for a walk outside and the prams constantly moving outside.
But it's when we're in shops, shopping centres, more enclosed spaces It's when it starts mainly.
Also he's got a trike he's exactly the same in that:/

Could you try a sling? Or let him walk with reins? My 15 month old hates the pram too but doesn't mind the sling and can walk a surprising distance.

Yea he refuses to walk which is strange! I was thinking a sling but wasn't sure if he would be to big or what ones the best to get

Is he forward facing? Is your pram adjustable to face you so you can interact with him. It could be a case of not being able to see you?

Silly thought - is there a pin or something in the pram that might be sticking into him? Is this new or has he always hated the pram?

What about using a scooter or Smart Trike?

Toddlers are testy little buggers (I have DS18m), can you bribe him a bit? 'We are going to the park, but need to walk there in the pram. If you won't be quiet then we will need to stay at home which is less fun.'

I know others whose toddlers are similar and they ended up driving most places to avoid the stroller.

Stop trying to use rationality and reason to understand a 20-month-old. You'll only your own brain.

Just do whatever makes him scream least louder at any given time. Wear sunglasses and avoid eye contact with concerned passers-by.

FWIW I am often found marching along with a 19 month old who's lying horizontally across her pram trying to scream herself sick.

Can you give him a little toy to play with? You might get a few minutes before he hurls it away and then you could offer another one!

Give him a tonne of cut up cucumber and tomato cut up to nibble. He won't get fat on it and if you give him enough, he'll be quiet for longer.

You should be able to find out from google if you have a sling library near you. I'd recommend paying them a visit - they'll be able to show you different options for toddler carrying and rent you something to try out so you don't have to commit. Woven wraps in blended fibres (linen-cotton etc) are great for supporting and distributing the weight of an older child - there's a bit of a learning curve but well worth exploring!

I second the suggestion of a sling - my DS loved being on my hip and a ring sling made it infinitely easier. He never liked his pram either, but the one thing htat helped was a clip-on dashboard with a steering wheel and various dials and knobs to twiddle, so he could 'drive'. Ours was from ELC, I think.

Could it be: you give him food that has E numbers in and they're affecting his behaviour? Since you mention he's only quiet when you give him something to eat......

Could the shops be over stimulating him? The lights/crowds etc

Remember it's just a phase. He will not be like this forever!

Is it just when you're shopping? I think lots of toddlers really dislike shopping, it's boring for them. So, avoid - internet shop food and don't bother shopping for anything else.

Does he want to be carried? (I appreciate that this isn't a direct alternative to a pram, but at least you'd know what the problem was)

I presume he is OK sitting in a highchair and car seat - otherwise I'd wonder if it hurts him to sit or have a strap between his legs, or if the pram straps particularly are too sharp/tight etc

Maybe he is getting his back teeth in, which can make them very upset and irrational.

It will pass, don't worry, they have phases - if he is clingy then hold him, do what he needs, where possible and at othe times if you need to go somewhere then you have to get on with it,

It sounds like he has some pain maybe and doesn't understand it? Have you tried a bit of calpol maybe? Not wanting to suggest that's a permanent solution but if it is teething, it would explain the need to bite stuff (does he have a soother too?) and the irrational tantrums.

Can you try a noisy toy?

Old iPod? Or kids toy that makes noises when you poke it?

Slow to eat foods? Small box of raisins, quavers/Pom bears? Apple if he can manage it?

Big, echoing buildings, harsh lights and a mother he probably can't see..

Get your food shopping delivered, and take him home and play with him.

Get a buggy board attached to the pram and tell him if he behaves nicely he can have a ride on it.

Don't think so. She might really enjoy going into a few shops. I do. My children had to come too.

My 23 month old is generally fine in her pram, and walking alongside me but I wouldn't take her shopping for a few hours. So boring for her and unfair to expect her to sit nicely for that long IMO.
