to ignore him screaming

My 20 month year old hates the pram just screams and screams, he's only quiet if he's eating in the pram but as soon as his foods finished he screams for more! If we're out for a few hours I can't keep constantly feeding himShock he scoffs it really quick to, it's not as if he's hungry as he's usually just had lunch or breakfast etc.
Even if I get him out the pram he won't walk with me he will scream and cling on to my legs! So j pick him up and Hel scream to get back down but cling to my legs again! This scream sounds like a proper tantrum scream, and the looks I get from some people really put me of taken him anywhere!
I have no idea what's wrong with him, everyone asks what's wrong is he ok but I dknt have a clue why he's doing it lolHmm

Just wanted to clarify that it's not only in shops, I don't go shopping for hours and hours and leave him in his buggy lol. Another example is the farm/zoo he's ok probably for the first 5 mins in his pram then the whinging starts so I get him out to walk and show him the animals etc and he won't want to walk he'l cling to my leg and scream, so I carry him and he screams to get down, put him back in his buggy he screams again.
He is fine in cars Hel sit quietly in his car seat, on trains and busses he's ok if the train and bus are moving or on my lap when they stop moving he screams.

He's ok in a supermarket trolley just anything else he doesn't like, I'm going to have a look at slings and see if that helps! And of course I don't like him screaming in his buggy but I can't stay in the house all day! He's my youngest child I have 4 altogether and I can't remember them being as bad, hopefully just a phase!

Try a different pram.

EponasWildDaughter · 23/10/2015 16:52

Hopefully it is just a phase OP.

Also he's getting to talking age soon, the golden time when you can begin to offer simple options and bribery Grin

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 23/10/2015 16:56

If he does it when walking and being carried too, is it that he doesn't like the pram or just that he doesn't like long outings/trips?

Candypops14 · 23/10/2015 17:19

Maybe he just doesn't like going out at all lol he's good as good as home

Well Jw35, you will be relieved to hear that they never screamed for long. They knew I wouldn't pay it the attention they wanted.

To be honest, I never really gave a stuff what anyone else thought, and I don't now, 13 years after DD3 was at that stage.

Artandco · 23/10/2015 20:11

Does he get overstimulated easily? I say that because my youngest did when out when small and liked to be able to hide away from noise or crowds. He was therefore ok in a parent facing pram with footmuff, when he had enough he would snuggle down instead footmuff and have the shade right up so the only thing he could See really was whoever was pushing him. Or he went in a sling and snuggled into us.

Candypops14 · 23/10/2015 20:33

artandco I have noticed at home actually if there's loud noises he stands in the corner and puts his hands over his ears, also when he's not so sure about something/someone he will cover his face with his hands and kind of just peep through his fingers, never put the 2 of them together! He's got a cosy toe from when he was younger so can pop that on the buggy and see if that makes a difference also might look to see if I can get a cheap forward facing buggy he may prefer that

I don't think anyone should care what others think if they're happy with what they do, but leaving them to scream is not what I would do that's all.

Senpai · 24/10/2015 07:17

Goblin Yes, it's always best to teach them they call the shots from an early age. Hmm

OP, when mine is cranky like that I do the basics: food, carry, walk, toy. If none of those work, then DD just has to tough it out and deal. Sometimes she calms herself down and I can distract her, sometimes she screams down the shopping center.

Other customers/people aren't my fucking problem, unless the place is somewhere you're suppose to be quiet then I take her out. Stop caring what other people think. They aren't the ones that put in the work and understand your kid is going through a tough time. You do. If your best friend was crying because she was genuinely upset, you wouldn't care that other people don't like the sound of it. It's not much different with your child. :)

If food makes him feel better though he might be teething. Do you have any teething rings? Even a cold wash cloth to chew on might help.

Definitely try a sling. I have a 21mo and still find a Connecta comfy at 24 weeks pregnant!

If you don't have a sling library nearby try It's A Sling Thing for postal hire. Connecta do toddler versions as do many other brands and most hold their value well if your LO wants to walk in a few months
