I am in my 30s and I have braces. I had dinner with DH and his BF and his wife.

Talk got round to the Refugee crisis and DH mentioned he was doing a run to raise money for the Red Cross.

BF wife started going on about the crisis is caused by the West (ok fine don't totally disagree) and people like me.

I asked what she ment. She said well people like me with my western ways, caring more about my looks than people. Using up the NHS etc.

So I said to her, my braces didn't cause it, I'm paying for them myself so not on NHS and she is just as 'western' as me so surely we are all to blame them.

Response was no no I'm part if the problem, I care more about my teeth than dying children. I was such a terrible person etc.

She would not shut up and let the subject be changed. Her DH looked so embarrassed so we left earlier than planned.

Yes I get that to many folk us in Britain continuing on with our lives when this is going on and dealing with stupid shit like braces is nothing compared to what refugees are going through. But that doesn't make you a bad person. Surely?

She has had a problem with the idea of my braces since I got them a year ago. I got them about 5 months before their wedding and she asked me to have them removed for the photos.

I just refused some chocolate cake before DH mentioned his run so maybe that's it. Chocolate cake and braces in public is a nono.

Unless they live in a hand-woven yurt, knit all their own clothes from foraged wool and exist on a diet of lentils and dirt, then there are things that she prioritises over people as well. Having braces may be something she hasn't spent money on, but I'm guessing that she isn't going without to send every spare penny to the refugees either, so her high horse has no legs!

She is nuts. You owe it to yourself never to see her again.

My dh's best friends ex wife was awful so we just never met up as couples. Life's too short.

I offered to duck face her photos at the wedding instead.

She used to be really nice easy to get along with. Her, BFF and DH went to uni together so have been friends for years. Lucky we only met up as couples once/twice a month. DH and BFF see each other several times a week.

I think I'll just phase myself out. She seems to pick a topic and is determined to either make you agree with her or go on at you till you do.

For the record (pucks judgy pants) I've emailed my MSP and MP signed that .gov petition and gave fucking money to the Red Cross short of going to fight IS I'm not sure what she expects me to do. We have no spare room either. Ahh.

If she gave that much of a shit she wouldn't be eating out in a restaurant she would be donating the money so I would just shout POT at her meaning pot and kettle but seriously the way she was going on it could mean the other as well

Tracy I'm a terrible person, if it want for my misaligned jaw (the reason for braces) we would have world peace, eternal sunshine and Alex O'Laughlin would be in my bed every night, I'm sure DH wouldn't mind much...

fyrefly how are the braces going? I remember that first month. Just a wee tip don't eat lettuce, chocolate cake and spinach in public. They are bastards to get out of the brace.
