Taking dcs home early from school twice in a week

Dd has been sent home early numerous times in last couple of weeks due to being unwell

On two occasions it was after 2pm so I asked to take ds at the same time to avoid having to walk home then go straight back not long after to get him with poorly dd in tow
The first time all was ok, second time they were not particularly happy

WIBU? I thought it was the best solution given that I needed to get dd home and try and sort her out then let her rest not have to go back out to get ds? And it wasn't as if it was 11am in the morning da was only missing the very last part of the day ?

I think its normal to take an hour or hour and a half to collect a child. Obviously ideally it's better if it's quicker but sometimes it can't be helped

Did your child seem ill before school?

As a one off (ie the first time) it's reasonable, if it's in danger of becoming a regular thing, not so much.

It's not ideal for them to be missing any school when not needed.

My biggest concern would be why your child is being sent home ill so often though.

It's a long term medical condition which had just been very troublesome the last couple of weeks.

I was just a bit when I overheard the conversation about why I was taking ds again early between the receptionist and teacher after I'd gone to grab dds antibiotics from the medical room. Then she said to me why couldn't I just come back at pick up time for him instead

Yes, if it's likely to keep recurring, I think you need to have a back-up plan for collecting DS when DD isn't in school. (another parent maybe?)

It's just difficult at that time of day, to have to collect dd, take her back (I don't drive) then literally have to turn straight back around to get ds

Alternative is sit in school with her unwell till end of school day ? I just didn't know what else to do (didn't help on both occasions it was pouring too)

I've managed to get ds collected before If dad has been sent home earlier in the day but I felt at such short notice if nobody could have collected him for me I'd have had to walk back up there anyway so as it was approx 215 pm the first time and 235 today it was easier to take him too?

Were they suggesting you leave your dd home alone sick while you walked back for your ds?

Nobody to look after dd though she felt very unwell and would have been sick if in a car. She just needed to go home and rest and have whatever done that needed to be toile her feel better

There are a couple of lovely people who would have and have collected him in the past but they need more notice and I wasn't sure as they work odd days so sometimes have a cm I couldn't guarantee there def would have been someone to get him for me

I've certainly done it at least once when DS ill and DD in reception, ans neither met with nor expected any hassle. As a one off I think it's just common sense.

If likely to happen regularly I think a back up plan is needed though. Is there a friendly parent going your way who could drop DS off? Or could school help find one? I'd be happy to help out in that sort of scenario.

Do they have a school family liaison person? Ours does and I think this is just the sort of situation they'd be asked to help with. Maybe you could sit with poorly child in a spare classroom/ staff room/ calm down room until home time or something. Hope she is better soon :)

Is it year 1 age child who was ill? If so what about using a buggy?

Perhaps they need a few days off to clear this flare up of the problem rather than being in school ill?

I might have to see what I can sort out as it's been a difficult couple of weeks where I've been pulled in different directions

I just feel school could have been a bit more understanding

Dd2 has migraines and has been sent him 3+ times in a week. They tend to cluster and come on very quickly.

School would not have let me take ds home even once. I think you were lucky they let you once.

You need to fond someone who will stay with dd or collect ds.

She has a buggy it's just still quite a long walk so even with her in buggy it would have been going back only to turn round again and the first occasion she was sent home I needed time with her at home to give medicines and sort other things out to alleviate the problem making her feel so ill

It's really difficult as nearly all the other parents work full or part time and have various arrangements themselves for pick up either cm or after school clubs etc etc so no guarantee whoever is asked would have been available so felt o had to take ds too

I would have walked another child home for anyone within a reasonable distance, at whatever notice, in that situation.

She had four days off last week to no avail. Just seems to be really really troublesome lately.

Have to send her in each morning if she's ok as otherwise she would miss even more school :(
