Smarties biscuits at 7:30am? AIBU or is MIL?

So staying at pil with 5yr old and 1yr old.
They live 4hrs away so we stay very rarely, although they come to visit us once a month for a week or so.
So they see gp often.
I'm in bed enjoying a cup of tea, dc were playing in bedroom next door. They went down stairs with gm and have just come back up all excited because they both have a smarties biscuit in each hand!

Okay okay, I am ready to be told that IABU due to them being away and it being a one off, and me still being in bed with a brew!.... but at the same time why does it enter someone's head to give kids biscuits at 7:30, before breakfast!
My dm did a similar thing not long ago, giving them both rice pudding for breakfast!

Yeah, a bit U I'd say. But I get where you're coming from.
It's only a one-off though and will seem like such a huge adventure to them.

tobysmum77 · 18/07/2015 07:32

Yeah mil did that once to me. I took them off dc until after breakfast.... the racket that ensued. She didn't ever do it again though Wink .

tobysmum77 · 18/07/2015 07:33

so yanbu is my opinion.

Spartans · 18/07/2015 07:35

Yanbu to be bothered, but I would let it go as a one off.

It's just a one off, just give them breakfast a bit later.

If it happened every single morning you wouldn't be unreasonable .
However its hardly oing to harm them once in a while and it's part of the fun, being spoilt by granny!

I think you are mean spirited to take them away from the hi odern once they had them in their hands all excited.

Seriously, think of something more important to sweat over and pick your battles!

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 18/07/2015 07:39

I want rice pudding for breakfast .... biscuits would annoy me.. but pay off is a lie in.

IUseAnyName · 18/07/2015 07:39

Your MIL is BVU for not giving you one with your cuppa!

IUseAnyName · 18/07/2015 07:45

I didn't purposefully come in to mn to post this awful I just happened to be on aibu on my phone when they ran in, so in a moment of grrrr, I posted. But in hindsight, I'm not too bothered.

I love the jam jar idea!

Id be a little Hmm if exMIL did it but we don't have a good relationship. If MIL or any other family did it Id think 'Aaah were all getting spoilt Grin'

tobysmum77 · 18/07/2015 07:45

you see I can't agree with that monkey. Treat=sugary crap er no a treat is going swimming with granny. And it isn't a one off if they get into 'its what grandparents are for' mentality, unless they only see gcs every 12 months. If you don't stop it the first time it rumbles on, happens repeatedly and causes resentment. But as I said I get on fine with my mil and she doesnt do it (but did with older gcs) So what do I know? Smile

Whathaveilost · 18/07/2015 07:46

Sorry OP. I misunderstood. I don't know why I thought you'd taken them!

I do think rules are relaxed once with grandparents and away from home.
I remember my mum having a right cats bum face when my nan gave us sugar butties as a kid! I get why my mum was not impressed now I am an adult but at the time it was amazing for us kids!
