to be a bit sad about the comments about how good it wasn't another boy

Mum of two (adult) boys here. Was just Shock at some of the comments after the birth was announced about how fantastic it is that they've one of each. Am I being over sensitive?

usualsuspect333 · 02/05/2015 21:36

It's been annoying me too. But I've tried to ignore the whole media circus and their stupid comments.

I was forced to watch it at my mums.

usualsuspect333 · 02/05/2015 21:38

I mean what would they have said if she had had another boy.

'oh what a shame, it's another boy'

Twats.

AlpacaMyBag · 02/05/2015 21:41

People say the most stupid things. I have a boy and a girl, and when DD was born several people said to me, "How nice! Now you're done!" Confused

So if DD had been a boy, I would have had to have had another one? Hmm

2boys2girls · 02/05/2015 21:44

Think meant as in not the heir and spare rather than not in another boy

TruJay · 02/05/2015 21:45

I've got one of each and still want more so I don't get the whole "ooh how lovely, you're done now, family complete" people look at me like I'm insane when I say I want more. No ones business but people always say these types of things, just smile and ignore.

Trills · 02/05/2015 21:45

Normally I'd be annoyed at the "perfect family" rubbish too.

But in this case I am rather pleased that the baby is a girl.

Because they've passed the new law on inheriting the throne, and she gets to live them.

Previously, a younger brother would have been ahead of her.

Now, she gets to keep her place in line no matter what.

I am glad that we have passed that equality law and that we now have a living person who gets to benefit from it.

I was rather disappointed that George wasn't a girl, TBH.

VelvetRose · 02/05/2015 21:47

Yes, some of the comments were ridiculous like "the public were very much hoping for a girl" and "Prince Charles says he's hoping for a girl". Wtf?!

GGabcd · 02/05/2015 21:48

But it is an heir and a spare since they changed the law.

Vile sentence, of course. Makes them not babies but pieces on a chess board.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 02/05/2015 21:51

I do find it really irritating too. Sort of perpetuates that awful belief that families are only truly complete if they are boy and girl.

It's so insulting and untrue.

Honeylimerainbow · 02/05/2015 21:55

It's unfortunately true though.

All adverts depicting family life feature a boy and a girl. it is seen as the "ideal" and since W & K are the 'ideal' poster family, well, it's just perfect that they have perfection.

2boys2girls · 02/05/2015 21:56

Agreed they should be equal but unfortunately they're not, I know the laws have changed with girls being equal but I still think them having a girl after a boy has made it less obvious

mumofthemonsters808 · 02/05/2015 21:59

Yes I agree, there seems to be an assumption that if you have one of each sex, you are blessed and priveledged. When I had Ds, lots of people told me how lucky I was and people always assume I do not need to have anymore children because I have one of each. People are strange at times.

derxa · 02/05/2015 22:01

OP YADNBU I too have two lovely DSs and couldn't be more pleased. I would have loved to have had more. (expensive bloodsuckers)

Rainicorn · 02/05/2015 22:03

Comments like that are made by ignorant people.

I have three boys. I was at my mams this afternoon and she had the news coverage in the backround. She suggested, at the age of 56, she be a churro gate for me so I can have a girl. I have three boys, and told her that my family was complete and to stop being so ridiculous.

I hate how people perceive having boys as being second best.

ThePinkOcelot · 02/05/2015 22:04

This comment bugs me too! I have 2 girls. Not long ago on MN, I also learned that because I didn't have a boy, I wasn't a mother. Here was me all these years thinking that I was!

Rainicorn · 02/05/2015 22:04

She be a surrogate*

Sorry, have had wine

kiwicocktail · 02/05/2015 22:10

YANBU. It's been annoying the feck out of me since this morning.

I'm already fed up of idiotic comments such as "one of each, now they're a perfect family" and "boy and now a girl - perfection" blah blah blah.

It's almost up there with a comment I once heard after a friend had a vaginal birth "congratulations! You gave birth the real way, now you're a proper mum" Hmm

Some people are just stupid ignorant.

2boys2girls · 02/05/2015 22:10

I've got both but I honestly didn't want both if you know what I mean I just wanted 4 regardless of sex,

Eltonjohnsflorist · 02/05/2015 22:12

I dont know, don't think there were horrible comments when Harry was born as second boy

TheFairyCaravan · 02/05/2015 22:17

YANBU

I have 2 boys (18&20). I didn't want a girl when I was expecting DS2, I genuinely wanted another boy. When he was born I did get a couple of people say "oh what a shame you can try again" . Shock

I think it's easier having 2 of the same gender. My 2 are great friends, they've always played with more or less the same things, clothes can be passed on. Now they are older they go out together, plan holidays together and borrow each other's clothes.

2boys2girls · 02/05/2015 22:18

Gosh there was , all they kept saying was Diana wanted a girl and how the spare had been born

123rd · 02/05/2015 22:18

I haven't heard/read any of those comments but gosh, doesn't she look like her Dad/brother ?

PunkrockerGirl · 02/05/2015 22:19

Don't get me wrong, thrilled for them. Just a bit Shock at the comments about how it's better that it's a girl rather than another boy.

I have to admit, for me it is. I would be sad if I never had a daughter.

But - you get what you're given!
