I took my children to a local attraction today and we took part in a science experiment workshop. They had few tables for the amount of participants so a Dad joined us on our table with his young son. He then asked us where we were from and if we lived locally. When I said the town we lived in, he pulled a mildly horrified face and said "ooohh"!. I was bloody outraged at the rudeness of him, I just can't believe peoples lack of manners. We don't live in the best town in the area by a long shot but I hardly think that was called for! We then had to sit politely whilst he over parented his son by loudly questioning him on every tiny science based fact. He even tried to do it to my kids as well. I just wish I had had the balls to pick him up on his snobby attitude but I just didn't want to cause a scene. Is it me or was he a complete knobber?

He sounds like a total wanker. Dont stress about it.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 07/04/2015 15:46

He was a knobber but don't give him anymore head space.

Imagine actually being him with that attitude.

YouTheCat · 07/04/2015 15:46

I'd have asked him where he was from and done the same back. Grin

Sexyhouseslippers · 07/04/2015 15:47

Of course YANBU you should have pulled him out on it.

scurryfunge · 07/04/2015 15:47

It's Basildon isn't it? Grin

flanneryann · 07/04/2015 15:55

Ha, no not Basildon! I would love to tell but don't want reveal myself! Funnily enough I can remember people where I grew up slagging off his town in a similarly snobbish manner! What a cock. I just kept thinking for Gods sake just be quiet for a second and let the children experiment without the running commentary. When it was finished he even asked what we had planned next like he wanted to join us! I was practically running in the opposite direction!

That would probably be me, boring my son to sleep/distraction about science. Blush

Pyjamaschocolateandwine · 07/04/2015 15:59

He might have fancied you op and was trying to impress you! Wink

Queazy · 07/04/2015 15:59

Complete knobber, but please don't waste anymore time thinking about such a numpty. Just goes to show money/nice estates don't equals nice manners Smile

Queazy · 07/04/2015 16:00

p.s. I'm sure wherever you live is perfectly nice. Even if it isn't, at least you can rest easy that you're not rude

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/04/2015 16:00

I'm from Croydon. This happens a lot.

splendide · 07/04/2015 16:01

Was it Aldershot?

TedAndLola · 07/04/2015 16:03

I grew up in Lewisham, I feel your pain. Grin

He's a knobhead, don't let it get you down. You clearly have better manners than him despite him THINKING he lives in a naicer area.

MuttonCadet · 07/04/2015 16:06

Try coming from Barnsley Smile
He sounds very rude, ignore the stupid man.

flanneryann · 07/04/2015 16:11

It goes to how much an area can change in 20 years or so. I am forever hopeful for where I live but I won't hold my breath! I have had this a lot over the years and I can't deny it does get me down a bit. The fact is, we can't afford to move so I've just come to terms with it. Arseholes like this really do wind me up. It true though that money doesn't necessarily buy you class. I've been brought up to believe that its quite unkind to make someone feel inferior.

loveareadingthanks · 07/04/2015 16:46

I not only used to live in Basildon, I lived on the worst/most notorious estate. You get these reactions. As someone else suggested, I just used to do it back.

SycamoreMum · 07/04/2015 16:47

When someone does that just stare them down Hmm

I get that tons because I live in Tottenham. He's a penis.

HazelBite · 07/04/2015 16:47

You should hear peoples reactions when I tell them I grew up in Tottenham!

MonikerisMonica · 07/04/2015 16:50

You live in Rotherham and the knobber lives in Sheffield Grin
