I date lots of younger guys, and there seems to be a real trend for these. They are usually massive and ever expending.

Is it me or are these just ugly? Can't see why so many 19-24 yo get so much skin covered with them

Mrsstarlord · 03/04/2015 07:18

Erm.... Because they like them?
Or is that too obvious?

temperamentalamongcorvids · 03/04/2015 07:22

There's been a trend for tattoos in the last decade or so that doesn't seem to be going

Away. It will, though. I think tramp stamps already look dated. There'll be lots of wrinkly, inky old bodies in 40-50 years from now and all the young folk will laugh at them.

Mrsstarlord · 03/04/2015 07:27

Tattoo design goes through phases but tattoos have have around for years. People like you may look at tattoos and laugh but people who like tattoos will not. I've seen some amazing pictures of older people who are heavily tattooed and they look amazing, their attitude to life shines through and is an attitude that I personally much prefer to the one conveyed by twin set and pearls or an M&S handbag.
Each to their own - why the need to judge? Says far more about you than the person you are judging.

ljwales · 03/04/2015 07:28

Well this is for a trend not just of tattoos but huge fuck off tattoos . so many guys have spoilt their bodies

Tribal tattoos are considered naff in general by most well thought of tattooists. They don't need a lot of skill to execute compared to the more arty styles and dh and I frequently see tribal cover ups on the various instagram tattoo artists pages we follow (we are both heavily tattooed and involved with the tattoo industry).

It's quite interesting really. Tattooing has changed so much over the years and it's very common for people to have laser treatment to remove one and then tattoo something else over the top! I expect the skills and machinery used will continue to update and as time goes on a lot of people will continue to have things removed and redone. It's less permanent than it used to be!

I think the comments people come out with about what will people look like when they're old really daft. We are all going to look old when we're old anyway. Having some tattoos won't change that and if you're the kind of person who loves tattoos you're not going to start hating them just because you've got a few more wrinkles. There's more to life to worry about !

I thought tribal was in fashion in the nineties. Clearly, I need to date more young men.

Thanks, that was kind of my point about tribal ones, they are uninspiring boring and dull. They are like anti art.

Fairylea · 03/04/2015 07:36

I guess it is personal preference though. ... some people might just like them. Was definitely a trend in the 90s rather than getting a tattoo specifically designed for you because it meant something to you or in the style of the artist because you love their work. When I got my last tattoo I was listening to a conversation between two artists who were talking about booking a client in who had specifically requested a tribal sleeve and they were trying to find a way to talk him out of it!

ivykaty44 · 03/04/2015 07:38

Fairy, most people I know that are 'old' with a tattoo regret the tattoo as it now looks crap, having faded and changed colour. So you may think its a silly thing to say but they are left with what one described to me as a big mess on his arm that doesn't make sense due to his fading skin.

ljwales · 03/04/2015 07:39

I guess so, but it seems lots of guys just have them to match their mates. Its definitely a trend now, probably more for people that want a tattoo but can't decide what. Bland

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 03/04/2015 08:03

A friend once greeted me with "Look, Disgrace, I've got a new tattoo". 10cm Celtic triskele IIRC.

"I've got a new scar." 20cm hip to navel after they'd had to have a bit of a rummage. Which meant I'd won.

Mrsstarlord · 03/04/2015 08:09
Confused I don't get it disgraced.
GreyjoysEggSplatOnMe · 03/04/2015 08:16

I have a tribal ish tattoo on my hand. I designed it myself and it has a meaning behind it that is not obvious to anyone looking but when I explain it is easy to see.

I couldn't give a fuck if you don't like it, or don't like my other tattoos (I have 3, one I got yesterday in fact). It is my skin and none of your business what I do with it.

Equally it is none of your business what anyone has on their skin. By all means dislike their tattoos (or piercings, or clothes or well, anything about personal appearance) but keep it to yourself Wink

How long until this becomes a thread about how awful tattoos of all kinds look?

Mrsstarlord · 03/04/2015 08:18

Exactly Greyjoys.

Mrsstarlord · 03/04/2015 08:20

I think the third post kind of already did Wink
And it was cross posted with a prediction that someone would say exactly what they did Grin

Sparklingbrook · 03/04/2015 08:22

You could start dating lots of older guys OP, then you might get to see some naice tattoos? Grin
Maybe younger guys aren't for you if their tattoos aren't up to scratch.

Each to their own. I bet I don't like your trousers but I won't start a thread about it.

dh and I frequently see

Does your DH not mind you dating lots of younger guys?

GlitzAndGigglesx · 03/04/2015 08:32

I've never personally liked tribal tattoos but it's their skin to ink so leave them be

Sparklingbrook · 03/04/2015 08:37

Does that young guy know a photo of his leg is on MN? Shock

ohidoliketobe · 03/04/2015 08:43

Erm yeah. So dating younger guys and you have a DH. Wow. Hmm

Mrsstarlord · 03/04/2015 08:45

I think OP was quoting someone else when she mentioned DH but the quoted section isn't very clear.
