to think I should be able to eat pizza

Nc. Basically my gp has got very stingy with prescriptions, for years I've been getting pizza bases and crackers for my celiac. But now apparently I can only be given pasta, bread and flour mixes. I know the NHS in Wales has some funding problems but I can't eat normal foods and they are more expensive and I could die if I doNt stick to the diet. I'd be perfectly happy to pay a nominal price of a pound or so a packet so they end up no more expensive than normal stuff but the system isn't in place. So I'm at the mercy of profit driven supermarkets who charge loads because they can.

You can eat lots of normal foods.

flanjabelle · 26/03/2015 21:46

Why dont you make pizza dough??

tshirtsuntan · 26/03/2015 21:46

Could you make pizza bases from the flour mix? Presumably the pizza base is just made from the flour?

chipsandpeas · 26/03/2015 21:46

if you are getting flour then make your own pizza bases

tshirtsuntan · 26/03/2015 21:46

X-post!

Trills · 26/03/2015 21:48

Come and have a moan about the fact that gluten-free flour-based items cost more, by all means. It is annoying when you can't take advantage of cheap things.

It's not just "profit-driven supermarkets" that are the problem though - the ingredients cost more and there are not the same economies of scale.

Complaining about not being able to eat "normal food", and being ungrateful that you get ANY speciality food on prescription just makes you sound self-obsessed and amazingly unimaginative and unempathetic.

GoofyIsACow · 26/03/2015 21:48

Nope... I'm not having it!

WorraLiberty · 26/03/2015 21:48

Didn't we have a thread almost exactly the same as this recently but it was cake rather than pizza?

letmeeatpizza · 26/03/2015 21:48

I've tried to make pizza bases, takes ages, trashes the kitchen and don't taste as good. If I didn't work full time and have a commute that would be a possibility, but I just don't have the time for that

OP posts:
kinkyfuckery · 26/03/2015 21:49

I was thinking the same Worral.

JigsawsAreAllLittlePieces · 26/03/2015 21:49

How does it trash the kitchen?

ShatnersBassoon · 26/03/2015 21:49

Eat pizza. You just need to learn how to make it using the ingredients that are safe for you to eat first. You're not going to die because you can't get free ready-made pizza bases.

SaucyJack · 26/03/2015 21:50

Yup, YABU. Sorry.

Pizza is not a medical necessity (even if it feels like it after a few pints).

tshirtsuntan · 26/03/2015 21:51

Have something else for dinner? Hmm

HarrietSchulenberg · 26/03/2015 21:51

How on earth does making a pizza base trash the kitchen? You don't sound as if you do much cooking, OP.

FarFromAnyRoad · 26/03/2015 21:51

But you make bread yes? So just - errr - you know - roll that mix out flat and whack it in the oven no? A pizza base mix is just a bread dough mix.

meglet · 26/03/2015 21:52

GF pizza is so expensive, £6 for 2 in sainsburys. £3 for a loaf, I use one slice and make small sandwiches now.

my body is healthier since I gave up gluten, it's my bank balance that's trashed.

formerbabe · 26/03/2015 21:52

I think its disgusting that smoked salmon is not available on prescription...I really enjoy it and its quite expensive.

I mean who cares about funding for cancer drugs hey when you can't get a pizza for free when there is plenty of other food available.

TurnOverTheTv · 26/03/2015 21:52

The sell gluten free margarita pizza in the frozen section for a couple of quid. Or make a cauliflower crust one instead

flanjabelle · 26/03/2015 21:53

Make the bases when you have time and freeze them ready to use when you want one quickly.

TessDurbeyfield · 26/03/2015 21:54

So your question is really 'AIBU to expect other people to subsidise me to eat sufficiently convenient pizza?'

I have to say I could be persuaded that there are more pressing claims for public money...

flanjabelle · 26/03/2015 21:54

Turn I made a cauli one tonight. I am now experiencing some digestive distress. Just a warning to others!

GinGinGin · 26/03/2015 21:54

Goodness, entitled much?! Yes YABVVVU!

TurnOverTheTv · 26/03/2015 21:56

Oh dear Flanjabelle Grin

SuperMarioBros · 26/03/2015 21:57

Have you tried cauliflower crust pizzas? Really easy to make and very tasty!
