What made you smile today?

Feeling low. Miscarried this morning.

Please can you cheer me up? Tell me things that have made you smile today.

For me, it's my DD. I had a horrendous day at work, not telling anyone (primary school teacher, not appropriate) but I picked DD up and she's just the cutest, sweetest little thing. So she's made life much easier.

But I am still so broken. So please, tell me nice things.

My daughter was born a week ago today with a major birth defect and 50/50 chance of survival. Yesterday she had her operation to correct the defect and it was successful and today they've started weaning her off of the sedatives, when I told her I love her she squeezed my finger. It's the first time she's ever responded to anything. Long road ahead but it was easily the best moment of my life to date :)
I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers

Moonraker37 · 25/02/2015 19:37

Oh big hug, I'm soooo sorry for your loss, firstly (& lastly)

In answer to your question, my son, misbehaving this evening, grinning at me when he's supposed to be sleeping. Sorry it's a bit boring.

I hope things start to get easier for you very soon x

MrsMonkeyBear · 25/02/2015 19:43

Sorry for your loss Flowers

I smiled seeing my dd (17w) smile and giggle when I got home from work. She was still asleep when I left at 6am and it made a long day so much better.

Also DH having a cup of tea ready for me getting in helped.

bearleftmonkeyright · 25/02/2015 19:44

So sorry for your loss. I am a TA and one of the DC I work with hugged me and said TaTa! as I left work this afternoon.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/02/2015 19:45

I'm sorry for your loss Juniper Flowers Cake

I was in bed with a migraine this morning feeling sorry for myself. It's my birthday tomorrow and I will be in hospital having multiple injections into my back and it was to be the first year DS1(20) wouldn't be here because he's joined the army. At lunchtime my phone rang, it was DS1, he said "mum, prepare my bed I'm coming home for your birthday!" He's finished his work for the week so asked if he could have leave to have a long weekend at home.

Just as I was serving up dinner, DS2(18) came skipping into the kitchen to say he was successful in the interview he had at uni on Monday, they have made him an offer. My gorgeous, caring boy is going to be a nurse.

Today has been a smiley day. Smile

ragged · 25/02/2015 19:50

Oh that's a bummer for you. Flowers

I watched some labradors in the park taking turns dashing in and out of the river, it was irresistible to them.

molyholy · 25/02/2015 19:50

Sorry for your loss op x

My dd (6) got in bed with me this morning and told me I had 'boobies like richard, cos they are all hanging down'. Richard btw, is an obese rabbit off a cartoon called The Amazing World of Gumball. It did made me giggle when I thought about it.

Hopelass · 25/02/2015 19:53

So sorry for your loss Thanks

My 16 mo DS (who sneaked into our bed in the middle of the night) woke me up by kissing my cheek. Nicest way I have ever been woken up and definitely made me smile! Unfortunately the day went downhill when he was diagnosed with talipes and now might need an op but he's a happy little chap and always makes me smile.

Hugs for you x

Primadonnagirl · 25/02/2015 19:53

Well doesn't this put all my crappy annoyances in perspective?! Dreadfully sorry OP but how lovely of you to make us think of nice things at a time like this. I smiled when my cat decided to sit neatly on a dining room chair as I was serving up dinner as if she was a guest!

BetweenDogandWolf · 25/02/2015 19:54

On the way home from school DD aged 7 said, "It's strange I have a great grandma alive, isn't it? "
"Do you? Who is it?"
"Ann, of course! "
Ann is my mum's younger sister not her mother! That made me laugh and my parents laugh (and my dad's having a bone scan tomorrow to see if his cancer has spread so we needed cheering up).

Sorry for your loss.

CobbOnn · 25/02/2015 19:55

So sorry for your loss.

I had a long crap day at work. Battled a sobbing teething 16month old into the bath. We were both sobbing while dressing him.

Then he had his bottle, lay on my belly and he sang himself to sleep. That moment. I never want to forget it.

soupmaker · 25/02/2015 19:57

So sorry for your loss OP. I know your pain too.

I smiled today when my DD2 burst into the house and gave my leg a bear hug whilst shouting mama, mama. She's 18 months.

JollyFrog · 25/02/2015 20:00

Sorry for your loss juniper Thanks I've been there it's not a good place to be,

My smiley (well, laugh out loud) moment today was me having a cuppa in bed this morn (day off work) DD was getting ready for work, came into my room to borrow steal my deodorant as she thought I was at work,
She had the fright of her life seeing me sat up in bed and thought I was an intruder and chucked her t shirt at me Hmm Grin
Made me chuckle for ages!

MrsTedCrilly · 25/02/2015 20:00

Oh lovely, I'm so sorry for your loss.. Sad Life can be crap sometimes. Be good to yourself and have lots of cuddles with DD Flowers

My 10 month old's top tooth has just cut and so he woke up screaming his head off earlier.. I took him to the window to watch the car lights go last in the dark, and he forgot about his pain and started smiling.. I feel good when I can help him (along with the calpol of course!)

MisForMumNotMaid · 25/02/2015 20:01

Sorry for your loss.

A parcel arrived for DH so DD and I opened it. It was a signed football shirt with all the man city first team signatures that DH won in a competition (big city fan he's very excited by it).

DD (just 4 and has various Autistic traits) was very unimpressed that the parcel was a football shirt, Daddy's already got one and when I opened it out she said we'd better send it back its got dirty pen marks all over it!

I loved listening to DH trying to explain to very logical DD why a shirt, the same as one he's already got, with dirty pen marks on it is something he covets.

JollyFrog · 25/02/2015 20:02

Good luck for tomorrow between

BetweenDogandWolf · 25/02/2015 20:07

Thanks Jollyfrog

velocityofbeans · 25/02/2015 20:07

Firstly, I'm so sorry for your loss, life really does suck sometimes

I spent more time than I should letting my 11 day old dgd sleep on me. I can't resist her, the feelings I get when I look at her are overwhelming, and if she makes a sound I will pick her up..thankfully my dd doesn't mind too much Smile

GymBum · 25/02/2015 20:08

I am so sorry Op. I know how hard it is to mc. Flowers. We lost our first.

The thing that made me smile today was picking up our 13 month old DD from her cot following her nap. She just threw her little arms around me and put her head on my shoulder. We stood there for about 10 minutes hugging whilst she babbled. It makes me smile now.

madasa · 25/02/2015 20:10

Sorry for your loss Flowers

My close friend had a hospital appointment today with his consultant. His chemo is working...

RitaOrange · 25/02/2015 20:11

Im so sorry that you lost your baby xxx

I have a slipped disc,I cannot move without agonising pain.
At 8 am my DS2 came into my room to say " is anything I can get you Mum, I know it hurts for you to move"
He got me coffee and breakfast before he went to college.
He is going to be ,to someone, some day, a fantastic partner.

NickiFury · 25/02/2015 20:12

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Ok, ds had his third guitar lesson today and came out with a massive smile on his face telling me he had started writing a song, he was so proud. He has autism and it's all much harder for him so that made me Grin.

Dd (8) told me she loved me but she said it in a really creepy zombie voice and it just really made me laugh because she sounded so different.

nachohousekeeper · 25/02/2015 20:13

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I got offered the job I was convinced I wasn't going to get. More money, a day a week less than I do now and I'll be a commuter!! (Unreasonably excited about commuting!!)

JoyceDivision · 25/02/2015 20:15

Ah Juniper44 I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers

I have had a smiley day today:

I paid off our mortgage early (no stealth boast, it's a small house in a not fab area, but now it's ours)
My car insurance dropped by £60 when I rang up and queried it
I got a cheque for £100 from Inland Revenue out of the blue
I have still resisted getting some shoes that I don't need

Hope everyone has had some sort of nice day today Smile

Postchildrenpregranny · 25/02/2015 20:15

Shame he's probably a bit young for my dauhters, RitaOrange You've obviously done a good job there.
