What made you smile today?

Feeling low. Miscarried this morning.

Please can you cheer me up? Tell me things that have made you smile today.

For me, it's my DD. I had a horrendous day at work, not telling anyone (primary school teacher, not appropriate) but I picked DD up and she's just the cutest, sweetest little thing. So she's made life much easier.

But I am still so broken. So please, tell me nice things.

I am sorry for your loss.

What made me smile today was one of the new...friends...yes I can call her friend...I have met at DCs school said she was going to rearrange a night out so I could come. We moved here a couple of years ago and it feels slow going trying to make friends at my age...so made me feel really happy to have been included. I have friends here. It feels great.

Juniper44 · 25/02/2015 20:17

Thanks all.

I know that MC is very common and I know I'm being over-indulgent to be so overwhelmed with despair on this. Just, this was our one chance. Due to my contract type, this was our only try.

But thank-you for your stories. I know IAMU in the grand scheme of things, so it really does help. And I'm sorry for those who are facing such big obstacles. My issue seems callous and insignificant in contrast. It was just a bunch of cells.

He is 17 and just such a kind , funny person.
< he would kill me if he knew I said this>

Juniper44 · 25/02/2015 20:19

Ah JoyceDivision I wish we'd paid off our mortgage! We are London based, so it'll probably take about 120 years to pay ours off. It's painful looking at the figures.

Sorry for your loss Flowers

My mil came down from oop north to see dh for his birthday. I've kept thus secret for the past few days. But, dh's face was a picture when he saw his DM :)

HappyIdiot · 25/02/2015 20:26

Sorry for your loss x

I was rocking Dd, 6 months, to sleep tonight. She had gone all soft and floppy and was giving the impression of being entirely asleep. As I was about to stand up to put her in her cot, her arm shot out straight, she grabbed my glasses and yanked them off my face. I wrestled them back off her, she opened her eyes, smiled, closed them again and went back to sleep.

It was like at the end of a horror film, when you think the baddie is dead and then he comes back for one more fight. I couldn't help laughing.

JollyFrog · 25/02/2015 20:27

juniper don't be too hard on yourself, it wasn't just about a bunch of cells, it was your dream. Be kind to yourself and hug DD closely xx

JoyceDivision · 25/02/2015 20:29

Juniper44, it's a nice feeling. We're celebrating with Aldi steaks and Aldi wine. It's grim up north, but it's cheap! Grin

Big hug to you, i don't think you're being self indulgent at all. Numerous friends of mine have sadly had miscarriages, and theydid not have the pressure that you seem to have with it being your one try, and it was such a huge blow to each of them.

Hope your DD gave you a super squishy hug at bedtime Smile

Choccywoccydodah · 25/02/2015 20:30

So sorry for your loss, awful awful. I hope you have lots of support in RL.

I was getting changed into my pjs, and da (3.6) came in, grabbed my bra, held it up to his chest and said 'Look at me mummy I have boobies like you!'
Made me Grin but also made me Hmm !!

Choccywoccydodah · 25/02/2015 20:30

*ds

GymBum · 25/02/2015 20:30

Juniper. It's not indulgent. You had a mc. That's really hurtful and distressing regardless of circumstances. Don't appologise for your pain and lose.

londonrach · 25/02/2015 20:32

Sorry for your loss. My mine good thing was kinda simple...my flowers flowered.. Abit of spring in our life...

What made you smile today?
GotToBeInItToWinIt · 25/02/2015 20:33

So sorry OP Thanks.

Have to admit I giggled when DD (15 months) pointed to Mr Tumble on TV and said 'daddy!' extremely excitedly ??

JugglingFromHereToThere · 25/02/2015 20:34

I liked the blue sky and cooking a mutter paneer curry for supper

I like posting on the daily gratitudes thread which often especially helps when I've had a crap day - so this one feels quite like that. It's a great thing to do I think.

I'm sorry your day has been un-utterably awful Juniper Sad

Gem124 · 25/02/2015 20:36

So sorry for you loss.

My happy moment was sitting down on the sofa after chasing my 22mo nephew around a plastic box, for him to then grab my hand to try and pull me to make me keep going. I did!! Made my heart burst with love that he was so happy xx

ginmakesitallok · 25/02/2015 20:39

Dd told me yet another story about a poo when I was putting her to bed, but tonight's poo had an mn worthy name - Laundicina jaundicina. I almost went on baby names to ask what you all thought of Jaundicina... She's a star, and she arrived after I'd had 2 MCs, so is the love of my life (as well as her big sister and daddy of course!)

DrDre · 25/02/2015 20:40

It's a small thing, but I'm going to be alone all day tomorrow in the office, and consequently bored. Except that my wife is meeting me for lunch, which I am really looking forward to!

DeepestDarkestRiver · 25/02/2015 20:41

So sorry for your loss, Juniper. It still makes me cry to remember the day I found out I had miscarried, and that was 7 years ago Flowers.

We had our offer on a house accepted today. Actually terrifying, but exciting, too. Our first house. It made me happy, but not as much as when DS1 (who is 6) kissed my hand and fell asleep while holding it to his chest Smile.

yourallmyfavourite · 25/02/2015 20:43

I'm so sorry for your loss op Flowers
Common or not it's an awful thing to go through

My smile today was for my daughter,
It's her 10th birthday today and she is such a shy child and really struggles with social situations.

She'd invited 3 friends round for a birthday tea and when the first one didn't turn up my heart just about broke for her and I really thought the other 2 wouldn't either.
But just as I was about to explain to her that people were busy etc etc there they were and I've never seen her face light up like that before.
didn't just make me smile but sob happy tears in the bathroom before we all sung happy birthday to the most wonderful girl ever.
She's still smiling now as am I Smile

GymBum · 25/02/2015 20:47

yourallmyfavourite. That made me tear up.. Happy birthday to your DD Cake

Mouldypineapple · 25/02/2015 20:48

Sorry for your loss Juniper. When I had a mc I was an emotional mess for weeks! So give yourself time to grieve and recover.

On a positive note.. Was chatting to my Mum on the phone today and had almost the same conversation twice so said to my Mum "you're losing the plot!" And she replied "I never had it anyway!"
Made me laugh.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 25/02/2015 20:50

Sorry for your loss OP x

I have too much spare time on my hands - spent some time watching scenes on Youtube this afternoon, someone recommended to me footage of dogs greeting their owners after serving away, part of the military homecomings' section. I always thought MN was a thief of time (in a good way) now I know I can fritter time watching canines to the best of their ability express joy at seeing humans return home.

I am thinking of you this evening. Flowers

yourallmyfavourite · 25/02/2015 20:52

Thank you Gymbum I'm still a bit teary myself but in a good way Smile

Mouldypineapple · 25/02/2015 20:53

And my DD (5) has been unwell today - obviously not so good - but we've had a day at home together and lots more cuddles than usual as she is feeling rubbish with a high temp. Like a snugly hot water bottle! Although she wasn't quite so keen on that concept!

Sootgremlin · 25/02/2015 20:53

So sorry for your loss juniperFlowers what a lovely thread you've started.

Flowers for you too snoop4d, best wishes to you and your little dd.

My 14 month old woke me up this morning by bashing my nose like a car horn with the palm of her hand, the biggest beaming grin on her face.

Pushing my ds on a zip wire, just the excitement and delight on his face, and the 'one more go!' that turned into ten.
