Astrology in Healthcare

"A Tory MP has has claimed NHS over-crowding could be solved by doctors using astrology to treat patients.

"Astrology is a useful diagnostic tool enabling us to see strengths and weaknesses via the birth chart.

"People who oppose what I say are usually bullies who have never studied astrology.

Bizarrely, Tredinnick, 65, who is chairman of the All-Party Group for Integrated Healthcare, went on to say people who opposed astrology were "racist".

Tredinnick, who was born under the Capricorn star sign, claims his own astrological chart suggests he was destined to be a "servant of the people." He said: "I have a strong 6th house which suggests an emphasis on being a servant of the people - and this is quite a strong indication of health and healing. My Moon-Venus-Jupiter planets (in Aquarius) sit opposite Pluto in the 12th house."

I'm not even going to ask if AIBU to think it's a load of bollocks, because it is a load of bollocks.

Well as a HCP that should make my job a whole lot easier!

1 in 12 of my patients will be the same.

Hurray!

WorraLiberty · 24/02/2015 21:06

Sounds like he needs his head testing and not by an astrologer.

AuntieStella · 24/02/2015 21:09

People of Bosworth - your country needs you!

Andrewofgg · 24/02/2015 21:10

He has a strong 6th house . . . were all the other five bought on expenses too?

I don't mind people believing bollocks - we probably all believe something bloody silly - and if he wants to make a total twat of himself, that's his privilege.

OP thanks for posting this. It was a shit day at work and tomorrow won't be much better and this has given something to laugh about.

PacificDogwood · 24/02/2015 21:19

OMG Shock

He is an MP?
People actually voted for him?!

Grin

I am a stubborn Taurus btw.
I have no idea what my children are.

ThingummyJigg · 24/02/2015 21:20

I don't know how to do a youtube link so have a look here for the definitive astrology/racism relationship.

Very much one for the sceptics Wink

ThingummyJigg · 24/02/2015 21:22

oooh it did it all on its own!

clever mumsnet!

Idontseeanysontarans · 24/02/2015 21:23

He has some erm.. Interesting ideas on the treatment of Autism using homeopathy too.
I'm fairly wooish but he is off the charts!

Out0fCheeseError · 24/02/2015 21:24

What the actual fucking fuck?

Idontseeanysontarans · 24/02/2015 21:28

I think it's one of those moments where you can actually hear the party leader groaning and banging his head off the nearest wall.
Usually it's Nigel Farage, today it's Cameron. Do you think they sit in the dark on election night pleading with with the public to Not re-elect some MP's?

Bluestocking · 24/02/2015 21:30

What a fucking lunatic. Goes to show that if you're stupid and illogical enough, even years of expensive education (Eton and Oxford, what a surprise) have absolute zero effect.

iliketea · 24/02/2015 21:32

Any other nurses wishing this were true? Holistic assessment could be done with the click of a button - choose star sign and one of 12 patient information and care plans would be printed. Imagine the time that could be saved!!! Grin

meandjulio · 24/02/2015 21:40

This reminds me of a Lucy Mangan quote about natural childbirth - she noted something like "there is a surprising amount of overlap between Conservatism and - not to put too fine a point on it - hippy bullshit"

Aries btw. Statins make me grow little ram's horns.

OhFlippityBolax · 24/02/2015 21:48

I worry about going into a hospital and saying I'm a cancer...

meandjulio · 24/02/2015 21:50

Grin ohflip

TwoOddSocks · 24/02/2015 21:56

Bluestocking

Totally off topic but as an Oxford graduate it's no more expensive than other top uni's and no more likely to churn out off the chart nut jobs either!

How bad must the opposition be (or how useless are the voters) that this guy got voted in?

trashcanjunkie · 24/02/2015 21:59

Hurrah, he can hopefully take my idiotic mother off my hands. She too is into the wankfest that is astrology, and is a trained homeopath, (although has never practiced her woooo crap proffessionally - just bleats it at me) She even did a project at homeopathic college on combining Astrology and Homeopathy Hmm

She is currently re-igniting her online studies into David Ike's lizards...

Trills · 24/02/2015 22:00

I am SO gad that I got the opportunity to vote for Julian Huppert.

More scientists in parliament please.

Bluestocking · 24/02/2015 22:01

Thanks, TwoOddSocks, I'm an Oxford grad too. At the time Tredinnick went to Oxford, it cost the country more to send a student to Oxbridge than to other universities, because those universities received a larger HEFCE grant per student than other universities. So although Mr T's parents wouldn't have paid, the British taxpayer certainly did.

And Eton's not cheap either!

Bluestocking · 24/02/2015 22:02

A "trained" homeopath, TrashCanJunkie? Thank heavens, think what havoc an untrained homeopath could wreak with those little sugar pills.

OhFlippityBolax · 24/02/2015 22:05

I have a mother like that trashcan she seems to think my neurological disease is the result of a gut parasite and can be cured by taking a sugar pill

I just see it as her way of dealing with my diagnosis! Bloody frustrating though!
