To think this is a strange meal combination.

OH has cooked a meal, which I'm obviously grateful for but I mentioned it was a strange combination of food. They disagreed so putting it up to the mumsnet jury.

She has made jacket potato, salad containing coleslaw and sliced boiled egg all along with beans and cheese.

Is it just me who think you have salad OR beans and not both? In particular boiled egg with beans seems very strange.

Most people would probably say strange but dd and I love beans with our salad.

Allstoppedup · 19/01/2015 17:07

Bless him, but that sounds like an unappetizing combo!

seaoflove · 19/01/2015 17:09

When you buy a filled jacket potato in a cafe, it's rare for it not to come with a side salad. The only slightly unusual thing would be adding egg to a side salad, but it's a fairly ordinary addition to a salad so I wouldn't vomit over the plate or anything.

squoosh · 19/01/2015 17:10

Sounds okay aside from the beans. Beans are never acceptable.

Personally I like a good old baked potato with butter and cheese. No other frills and furbelows required.

fredfredgeorgejnr · 19/01/2015 17:11

I think that's a fine combination, and quite reasonable and normal.

Summerisle1 · 19/01/2015 17:11

Baked beans can be surprisingly nice with salad!

NancyRaygun · 19/01/2015 17:17

No. That sounds bloody strange. Beans and Salad are two separate potato toppings that should never meet!

However, I like both beans and peas, separated by a sort of sausage dam with my bangers and mash. No gravy. So I am clearly not to be trusted on matters of taste! Grin

WutheringFrights · 19/01/2015 17:23

Perfectly acceptable..in fact beans should only ever been eaten with coleslaw!
She is a culinary genius!

MamaLazarou · 19/01/2015 17:25

She has all the major food groups covered. What do you want - the moon on a stick?

Lezprechaun · 19/01/2015 17:25

But beans with boiled egg!

Mmm beans and egg, a favourite childhood, nostalgic meal. Perhaps on toast. Agreed a little odd on a side salad. Bit of extra protein will do no harm.

Lilybensmum1 · 19/01/2015 17:26

I love beans and salad my mum always moans at me and my dad for eating this! DH thinks it's awful. Love it! Enjoy.

MamaLazarou · 19/01/2015 17:26

Beans and egg are fine (as long as the beans don't touch the egg).

usualsuspect333 · 19/01/2015 17:26

Sounds good to me.

I don't think it's that strange.

storminabuttercup · 19/01/2015 17:27

This is something I have regular on slimming world. It's yummy!

usualsuspect333 · 19/01/2015 17:27

I love beans and egg.

Shockers · 19/01/2015 17:29

I'd just be happy if someone else cooked!

TheListingAttic · 19/01/2015 17:31

You'd eat some form of egg with beans as part of a fry up, don't see why a boiled-egg-with-salad isn't okay next to your cheesey-beans 'tato.

I probably wouldn't have thought to do that myself, but it sounds nice enough. Bloody hungry now!

BadgersRetreat · 19/01/2015 17:31

Beans and egg are fine, but the salad/bean combo is odd IMO

But at least she made you dinner Grin

iwantgin · 19/01/2015 17:32

It is a bit odd - as you would generally have the jacket with either beans OR the egg salad.

But I love all those things so would happily eat it.

Winterbells · 19/01/2015 17:32

I think it is an odd combination but I also want to have the same for my dinner now.

Notso · 19/01/2015 17:33

Sounds rank. My parents used to have cold baked beans with salad

piggychops · 19/01/2015 17:33

My favourite combo is tuna mayonnaise, coleslaw and warmed-up baked beans all loaded into the jacket potato.
Sounds gross but is so tasty!

Purplepoodle · 19/01/2015 18:05

If its jacket with beans and cheese then a side salad then not weird (she's not doing sw by any chance)

Fullpleatherjacket · 19/01/2015 18:07

If you told me I'd cooked you a strange combination of food, you'd be wearing it not eating it.
