To think this is a strange meal combination.

OH has cooked a meal, which I'm obviously grateful for but I mentioned it was a strange combination of food. They disagreed so putting it up to the mumsnet jury.

She has made jacket potato, salad containing coleslaw and sliced boiled egg all along with beans and cheese.

Is it just me who think you have salad OR beans and not both? In particular boiled egg with beans seems very strange.

I think pie and salad sounds good :)

Bellejessleo · 19/01/2015 18:59

Sounds nice to me! I love a good jacket spud with lots or different toppings and a boiled egg as part of a salad is pretty standard in my opinion! Be grateful you are cooked for..my husband can't even make decent toast Angry

tomandizzymum · 19/01/2015 18:59

LoL that's fine. Anything goes, and if the kids eat it, even better.
We live in South America so we have rice, beans and salad with every meal. It's just the meat and vegetable dishes that vary everyday.

fredfredgeorgejnr · 19/01/2015 19:23

Beans and Egg are unusual combination? What do you have in your fry up?

firesidechat · 19/01/2015 19:26

Jacket potatoes are quite often served with a side salad in cafes and restaurants, so not that strange.

amigababy · 19/01/2015 19:36

I see your potato beans and salad, and raise you
Fish. With Yorkshire Pudding. (thank you FIL)

Dutch1e · 19/01/2015 20:07

Sounds yum to me. All of it would be stuffing for the baked potato and I'd have the salad on the side. Potato = carbs, Beans/egg = protein, Salad = fibre. Balanced meal done!

EdSheeran · 19/01/2015 20:10

amigababy My sister eats Yorkshire Puds with everything. I once saw her eating a late dinner of 2 weetabix with a Yorkie on the side. Hmm

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 19/01/2015 20:44

I would have left out the beans.

My boss had a weird food combination going on today. Caused me to do a double take anyway.

Beans, bolognaise, pasta, tuna and......custard.

Yes! Custard Shock

Unless it's just me that thought it was weird.

sherbetpips · 19/01/2015 20:52

sounds like something my SIL would make, she literally grabs what is there or needs using up and that is what you get. Oddest combo was spag bol and tinned mussels in vinegar on the side! Waste not want not....

GokTwo · 19/01/2015 21:21

I'm with Shockers, having been the soul cook for 9 years in my house I learned to accept with glee anything that was cooked by someone else! I don't really care now as long as it's edible!

dylanthedragon · 19/01/2015 21:21

I was about to say 'where was the tuna?' but it seems some other mnetters have as sophisticated tastes as I do! Smile

WhereIsMyFurryHat · 19/01/2015 21:23

The eggs sound BAD but I like salad with baked potatoes and beans especially red onion.

Lezprechaun · 19/01/2015 22:12

Ok clearly it's a divided topic. Yes it was all on the same plate and of course I ate it (minus the egg) and was very pleased and grateful that she cooked for me (like she does every single day).

We often tease each other about strange food combinations as I have a couple of my own so she wanted a mumnet vote as to who was right, it isn't like I refused her hard work because I personally wouldn't put salad with baked beans!

Beans AND egg?! I feel sorry for people downwind of you tomorrow Grin seriously though, I like salad on the side of potato with beans and cheese as long as it doesn't get mixed together too much because warm salad is gross.

FoulsomeAndMaggotwise · 20/01/2015 00:26

What? Beans and egg are like bread and butter. They just go. In fact one of my favourite meals is egg and bean pie.

I have never in my life heard that beans and egg don't go together.

I'd ditch the salad though.

AlfAlf · 20/01/2015 00:33

I like all those things. Sounds like a good balanced meal to me.
