OH has cooked a meal, which I'm obviously grateful for but I mentioned it was a strange combination of food. They disagreed so putting it up to the mumsnet jury.

She has made jacket potato, salad containing coleslaw and sliced boiled egg all along with beans and cheese.

Is it just me who think you have salad OR beans and not both? In particular boiled egg with beans seems very strange.

I think you could probably get away with it if it was a side salad. She's not bunged it all on the one plate, has she?

Frankly, I'd be delighted if my DH cooked me anything (apart from his very occasional but ridiculously hot veggie curries).

If you put it a different way round it's perfectly fine ie jacket potato with beans plus salad, egg & coleslaw.

Potato, beans, salad, eggs. Nice! I often have a baked potato with salad and have no objection to egg in it. And why not beans and egg together? That's what DS is having for dinner (omelette) and we eat them in a cooked breakfast don't we!

My friends ex gave his two young daughters a peeled boiled egg and plain noodles for dinner once!

Makes me heave just thinking about it, no sauce or anything, bleurgh.

Everything else is fine, but beans and salad is just wrong imho, it's in the same league as putting ketchup on a salad.

I like both separately, but the idea of beans with coleslaw is making my stomach turn.

It's not something I would serve as a meal, it just seems a collection of random bits, were they using up leftovers perhaps?

But it's nice to have someone make a meal for you, and it's the thought that counts.

i do jacket pots, tuna, beans, coleslaw, curried egg, salad and toms, but often go without the cheese
my dc say it is strange but we love it

Sounds like a good meal to me. As someone said up thread, most cafes serve filled baked potatoes with a side salad.

Sounds fine to me,aside from the egg which is a bit odd.Most places serve salad with any jacket potato. Beans can be quite nice on a bit of lettuce!

So no,not odd. Odd is one a mnetter posted about doing for tea the other day -pasty with jacket potato,cauliflower and broccoli. THAT is an odd combination that would get me staring at the plate bemused

Well I would serve this.... But usually tuna instead of egg. You don't have to eat it all, help yourself to whatever combo you want.

Are the beans Heinz type ones or green beans???

I think you have a Summer and Winter thing going on.

Egg goes with salad or beans and could be the mad thing that bring this plate together. I avoid baked potatoes and beans in the outside world because the salad garnish is just wrong.

Not understanding why people think egg and beans is a wierd combo. Like someone said above you have egg and beans on a fry up.

Also, I've always had beans and salad on a jacket potato. Never seen the problem.

Pie and salad is weird IMHO. Unless its a tartlet or fill DooDah. Steak and kidney, chicken, fish pie should have veg.
