Quality Street tin

Lagoonablue · 23/12/2014 15:59

We have a tin of Quality Street unopened which we are taking to SIL's. WIBU to prise off the Sellotape around the tin, steal a couple of strawberry cremes, then replace lid and tape?

Is it unreasonable? If so I am! Have just done it! I have no guilt. The sweets were delicious!

Confession time.

When I was about 8 Mum came home with a big tin of Quality Street. It was November. By the beginning of December they were under the tree and I was impatient.
Over the next few weeks I peeled back the seal, ate some then replaced the seal. Of course by Christmas day it was at least half a tin light Blush

Mother went mad......at Rowntree. She fired off a stinking letter about underweight tins and had lots of vouchers by way of apology. To this day (I'm 41) she still doesn't know.

SickOfAnts · 23/12/2014 17:57

I have just opened my christmas Roses and am elated to discover coffee cremes! When did this happen?

SantanaLopez · 23/12/2014 18:04

To this day (I'm 41) she still doesn't know.

Xmas Grin

What?! Coffee cremes are back?! That tin wrapped up under my tree better be bloody Roses. I remember my nanny used to save me the coffee ones on her coffee table for when I'd visit. She used to spoil me :)

BoneyBackJefferson · 23/12/2014 18:15

DidoTheDodo
We need some kind of MN Quality Street swap thread.

yes to this :)

Tobyjugg · 23/12/2014 18:18

Do it. The strawberry creams are vile. If you were taking the green triangles that would be another matter.

PastaOutFromTheXmasGin · 23/12/2014 18:27

I insist on having a tub of QS every year despite only liking toffee pennies. I know that I could just get a normal box of toffees but the toffee pennies are much nicer.

Pointlessfan · 23/12/2014 18:32

Nobody in my family likes toffee pennies - there should def be a sweet swap on here!
Did I read that right? Coffee cremes back in the Roses?? Just nipping to the shop...

Aeroflotgirl · 23/12/2014 18:41

I have a Quality Street tin of strawberry and orange ones which I hate so left if there are any takers Xmas Grin

Cocolepew · 23/12/2014 19:00

The lemon ones only seem to be in the Creams box. I've never had them in an ordinary box of QS.
I've had about 7 boxes since October Blush

I bought the packet of Roses strawberry creams and they were horrible. I don't like Roses even though they are Cadbury.

Bair · 23/12/2014 19:10

Argh, don't tell me about the coffee creams.

I've gone against all tradition and not bought a tin of sweets this year, cos they're not tins any more and they're so piddly small I always feel robbed. I remember in the 80's, you bought a tin,, gained 2 stone then lived in the tin during the recession.

But, coffee creams is a game changer....

bumpthedoor · 23/12/2014 19:13

Cruickshank Cracknell Oh yes.

londonrach · 23/12/2014 19:23

Bair £4 not sure if it was tesco, morrisons or sainsburys!

DidoTheDodo · 23/12/2014 19:41

Bah, lyingwitch there goes my business plan for the next series of the Apprentice...the ' Tinned Sweeties Swap Shop'

DidoTheDodo · 23/12/2014 19:42

PS I like the soft toffee dome ones.

ShadowKat · 23/12/2014 19:43

Urgh. Roses have coffee creams in them this year? I'm now happy that the shop didn't have any Roses tins in when I was buying our Christmas sweety tin.

I hate coffee flavoured sweets. I'd happily back a ban on them.

hackmum · 23/12/2014 19:44

Strawberry creams are disgusting! You would not be at all U to take them all out and save anyone else the horror of eating them.

BerniceBroadside · 23/12/2014 19:49

The roses coffee creams are in a green wrapper. Just to confuse those of us who hate coffee, but liked whatever was in the green wrappers last year.

I can still taste it. The bastards.

Selinasupreme · 23/12/2014 19:59

YABU!

what you need to do is take all of the strawberry cremes, eat them, stuff the wrappers with old newspaper and re wrap and put back in the box.

catsmother · 23/12/2014 20:00

Releasethehounds and Cruikshank - yes, and yes, I still lament the loss of both gooseberry creams and peanut cracknels from QS.

And what about the choc covered nougat - that was lovely, in an orange wrapper IIRC.

QS today is crap and boring - apart from strawberry and orange creams of course.

Putthatonyourneedles · 23/12/2014 20:37

One of the girls at work loves the strawberry and orange creams so after New year I go in with a bag of them and she swaps them for her caramel sweets.

apotatoprintinapeartree · 23/12/2014 20:46

I like the orange creams and I used to like the green gooseberry creams and they took them out.
I'm going back a bit though when they used to do 2 size tins.
The ones we have now were the smallest, there used to be one twice as big.
I know all about quality Street, nobody fucks with my knowledge Xmas Grin

CrapBag · 23/12/2014 21:06

YABU.

The strawberry creams are horrible.

Orange creams however, yum! And the dark brown wrappers that are toffee, and the toffee stick ones.

Coconut ones can burn in the depths of hell. Xmas Grin

SoonToBeMrsB · 23/12/2014 21:06

Everyone talking shit about strawberry and orange creams need to do five Hail Marys and sit on the naughty step to think about your actions.

Although I'll admit that the lemon creams are horrible Grin

catsmother · 23/12/2014 21:13

No CrapBag, the coconut ones are great - but the secret is you have to eat them in conjunction with either the toffee penny or the toffee stick, so you get delish coconutty toffee Grin
