To think that no one can possibly actually like udon noodles?

Finally, after being sceptical for a number of years I tried udon noodles this week. My worst fears were confirmed; they are fucking gross.

AIBU to think that no one could possibly really like them more than a nice medium egg noodle? So thick and wheaty, covering the inside of your mouth and feeling like thick worms before you chew them? Eugh. Back to fine/medium for me!

Tapeworms.

Also horrid: glass noodles.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 12/12/2014 20:15

I enjoy eating them, Udons that is.

balia · 12/12/2014 20:15

My mother always told me not to say anything unpleasant about other people's food.

CMOTDibbler · 12/12/2014 20:15

Ds loves them. I don't eat wheat, so don't know about udon but I really like glass noodles

Mrscog · 12/12/2014 20:16

Ooh valrhona never tried glass but never thought they looked too bad. Are they glutinous and tasteless? They do look like they need to be accompanied with hefty quantities of soy sauce and lime juice!

I had them for the first time a few months ago - LOVE them. My favourite noodles now.

TheWitTank · 12/12/2014 20:17

I bloody LOVE udon noodles. Could eat them every day!

Biscetti · 12/12/2014 20:19

Revolting things.

Discopanda · 12/12/2014 20:20

Noodles are just like pasta- the different types need different kinds of sauces. Udon noodles can be nice if they aren't too sloppy and they're in a good dressing. Saying that, soba are my favourite.

fascicle · 12/12/2014 20:20

Used to love them until I stepped away from the wheat (haven't come across Udon style rice noodles).

Andrewofgg · 12/12/2014 20:21

There are people so weird that they like parsnips. And Bovril. And for all I know both together. Don't ever be surprised about what people like eating.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 12/12/2014 20:22

They're also very filling aswell and they make a change from spag when you're having bolognaise or a chilli.

Mousefinkle · 12/12/2014 20:22

Oh I love udon noodles! My absolute favourite.

Discopanda · 12/12/2014 20:23

Mrscog · 12/12/2014 20:23

:D andrewofgg poor DH is still scarred from the time he bit into a parsnip which he thought was a roast potato! He always carries out checks and double checks these days!

I will have to try them now, ds loves noodles but hasn't tried these ones.

DHandhisJollyCarolingfoot · 12/12/2014 20:25

I love parsnips and Bovril! Shock

Mrscog · 12/12/2014 20:26

THanks discopanda I just don't think I can get over the initial texture - it's just too much!

Binkybix · 12/12/2014 20:27

They frighten me a bit because I don't like eels/snakes and they remind me of them. Strangely, I will eat eels with pie and mash.

Teeste · 12/12/2014 20:27

There are few foods in this world better than udon noodles with a Chinese-style beef stew. Or spring rolls with glass noodles. Noms!

LaurieMarlow · 12/12/2014 20:28

Mmm, I love udon noodles. All squidgy and delicious.

And roast parsnips are my favourite vegetables.

Perhaps I should just leave this thread - I sense I'm not with like minded people Grin

MsRinky · 12/12/2014 20:28

I love parsnips, bovril and udon. In fact, I could quite go a bowl of udon in a beefy bovril broth with ribbons of parsnip in it right now.

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 12/12/2014 20:28

I love udon noodles. I only ever have them in Wagamamas though, so I have no idea what they're like elsewhere.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 12/12/2014 20:31

Glass noodles

QuickSilverFairy · 12/12/2014 20:31

Glass noodles are the bomb! I would eat them daily if I could.
