To think that no one can possibly actually like udon noodles?

Finally, after being sceptical for a number of years I tried udon noodles this week. My worst fears were confirmed; they are fucking gross.

AIBU to think that no one could possibly really like them more than a nice medium egg noodle? So thick and wheaty, covering the inside of your mouth and feeling like thick worms before you chew them? Eugh. Back to fine/medium for me!

Maybe I should overcome the fear and try them.

Love noodles. Fat ones, thin ones, ribbon ones, udon, glass, rice, egg, soba. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Allalonenow · 12/12/2014 20:34

I like udon noodles and parsnips.

Are glass noodles the ones that used to called Angel Hair noodles? If so, I like them in a soup, with vegetables and say chicken or fish, good for using up left overs.

CupidStuntSurvivor · 12/12/2014 20:36

I despise udon. They are so disgustingly claggy. YANBU

I love pretty much all noodles!

Liara · 12/12/2014 20:39

I love udon. Specially fried. Used to have them at least once a week when I lived in Japan.

And parsnips too. Cooked in butter.

addictedtosugar · 12/12/2014 20:40

udon noodles, when cook properly, are delish
As are roast parsnips, and bovril on toast (like others eat Marmite). I can't say I'm delighted by bovril as a drink.

hugoagogo · 12/12/2014 20:43

You could not be any more unreasonable. Shock

I am obsessed with udon noodles with tofu, spring onions, broccoli and thai 7 spice and a bit of soy.

I may have had it 3 times already this week. Blush

Wagamama's Chicken and ginger udon noodles (with extra nuts) is one of my favourite foods ever. Delicious. Grin

Like worms in your mouth.

Why would anyone go near these things?

WhaddayWant · 12/12/2014 20:51

Wagamamas udon noodles.

Delicious

Never had them but feel the same about Miso soup. Ugh.

Worms Confused

Not very appetising.

Anyone else remember a song from childhood which began

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, I go down the garden and eat worms

and can anybody finish it off?

fieldfare · 12/12/2014 20:59

They're my favourite type of noodle!
And I love parsnips in every guise.
As well as bovril on toast or with a bit of black pepper as a hot drink.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 12/12/2014 21:19

versions of the "Worm song"

Bolshybookworm · 12/12/2014 21:31

I love them, especially when my SIL makes them from scratch (she gets the kids to walk on the dough).

But then, I love mochi- the most glutinous substance known to man Grin

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 12/12/2014 22:02

I love love love udon noodles. I can't eat the other sort

bigbluestars · 12/12/2014 22:13

My favourite. I love udon.

Bunnyjo · 12/12/2014 22:34

My Japanese uni friend has cooked me many noodle dishes, including udon noodle soup which was simply the most amazing dish - it was a flavoursome broth with udon noodles, mushrooms and chicken - and I fell in love with the intense flavours immediately.

I used to like Wagamama's udon noodles, but they aren't a patch on the genuine article.

wobblyweebles · 12/12/2014 22:37

Love udon. Hate parsnips.

Now I want to go to Wagamama but the nearest one is 110 miles away googles buses

Andrewofgg · 12/12/2014 23:54

Thank you SteamTrains!

pollypocket123 · 13/12/2014 00:50

Love them; Wag's Yaki Udon = Grin

WingsofNylon · 13/12/2014 00:57

I WOULD LIVE OFF UDON NOODLES IF I COULD!

valrhona · 13/12/2014 01:00

I like parsnips. I haven't tasted bovril in many years. Marmite isn't on my shopping list, don't know that I've ever tried it. Can't take to the size and texture of udon or glass noodles. Have just demolished Singapore hot&spicy noodles, with fine Chinese noodles & it was yummmmmmm :)
