Yesterday I commented to DH that I needed to add the Radio Times to my online Christmas shop. He said we don't need a TV guide because we have a digital TV guide with Sky. My point was it wasn't Christmas without the Radio Times containing a crap crossword, 80% holiday ads and a few TV listings.
He says IABU, I say he is
(but either way I've ordered one!)

So come on MN Jury, Christmas TV guides are tradition, right?

Yep I'm with you, it's not Christmas without radio times and it better have the tv quiz picture too!

Bulbasaur · 08/12/2014 15:54

Sorry, I have to take DH's side on this one. It's impractical to need a paper guide when you have one right there on the screen.

But then, I really don't have nostalgia attached to TV guides, they were always used to perform a function. :)

operaha · 08/12/2014 15:54

Omg I'm picking up mine today YADNBU!

operaha · 08/12/2014 15:54

You can't circle stuff on screen, it's definitely not the same!

SistersOfPercy · 08/12/2014 15:55

Its one of those things you look forward to, a cuppa and a read of whats on all over Christmas. When I was a kid I'd circle all the movies I wanted to watch I was a strange child

OP posts:
LineRunner · 08/12/2014 15:55

I always get one and no-one looks at it.

december12 · 08/12/2014 15:55

When I was young, you had to get the TV Times for ITV and Radio Times for BBC. My Grandparents still get both Confused

CabbagePatchCheryl · 08/12/2014 15:55

Utterly essential. It's part of my pre-Christmas wind-down to sit down with a cuppa, the RT and a highlighter! I may be a loser though...

SistersOfPercy · 08/12/2014 15:56

Ha operaha! That was a good crosspost.

I might pick up the TV Times AND the Radio Times and see if I can make his teeth itch hehe

OP posts:
superbagpuss · 08/12/2014 15:57

we only get one at Christmas

Otherwise how do you know what will be on, whats needs to be taped (onto hard disc drive) and what clashes you have - we can tape two things at once and still have arguements about what gets taped

Its part of the christmas fun

And if you get really bored you can play name that film - one person reads out the description and the other one guesses the film

Idontseeanysontarans · 08/12/2014 15:59

Your DH is hugely unreasonable!! Grin
Got our copy of the Radio Times today, it's part of the festive season here.

londonrach · 08/12/2014 16:00

Afraid we use the free ones in the paper. Agree though as how can you look ahead if you dont have a paper copy.

SistersOfPercy · 08/12/2014 16:00

I remember the times when you had to buy both and we had four channels to choose from. Shock

OP posts:
december12 · 08/12/2014 16:01

LOL Percy, I remember 2 channels (I'm not sure when BBC 2 started but we couldn't receive it where we lived)

curiousgeorgie · 08/12/2014 16:04

I need one on the coffee table at Christmas!

It would be like not having a tree... Sad

Buttercupsanddaisys · 08/12/2014 16:05

Well, I think that he would've failed Tebbit's Citizen Test. It's a tradition, innit?

Screenclean · 08/12/2014 16:06

I'm going to buy one now as this thread has prompted me Grin

Highlighter pen at the ready!

SistersOfPercy · 08/12/2014 16:06

Technically I remember 3 but didn't want to admit that Blush

I remember gathering around the TV with my parents for the launch of Channel 4 and being massively disinterested in Countdown.

I'm with you, I love the Christmas Radio Times. The letters are brilliant, move over Viz Top Tips!

allypally999 · 08/12/2014 16:08

I remember before tvs ... am I the only oldie here?

I like to circle things too .. can't give it up now .. too old to change lol

december12 · 08/12/2014 16:09

No Butter, it has to be a leaky biro. No highlighters in 1972!!

Actually I think there may have been, just, but they weren't for the Radio Times Grin

december12 · 08/12/2014 16:11

I know what you mean ally. I can't get on with a diary or a to do list on my phone either. I need to be able to cross things though.

Awakeagain · 08/12/2014 16:11

I have had the same argument a few years ago
Flicked through it and probably did t use it but I felt like we needed it for christmas
And in sky you can only see a week in advance, tv times has 2 weeks??so you can plan your viewing

weeblueberry · 08/12/2014 16:12

I only found out last Christmas that the Radio Times had TV listings in it. DP thought it was hilarious I thought it only had radio listings but we always had a TV Times growing up so how was I to know?? Grin

Viviennemary · 08/12/2014 16:13

If you want it then you have it. (That's my rule now.) I don't care if it's rubbish, a waste of money or anything else. You should keep it under lock and key. Grin
