Yesterday I commented to DH that I needed to add the Radio Times to my online Christmas shop. He said we don't need a TV guide because we have a digital TV guide with Sky. My point was it wasn't Christmas without the Radio Times containing a crap crossword, 80% holiday ads and a few TV listings.
He says IABU, I say he is
(but either way I've ordered one!)

So come on MN Jury, Christmas TV guides are tradition, right?

My Nan had the Radio Times because she listened to Radio a lot, my parents had the TV Times. I preferred circling my Nan's Radio Times, it was far superior.
And don't get me started on all this TV Quick crap, thats just not Christmas!

Has to be the Radio Times, my nan got it, my parents got it, and now I get it! Some traditions are too important to be broken Grin

OOAOML · 08/12/2014 16:20

We get the Radio Times delivered every week. Onscreen guides just aren't enough for me, I like to flick through and check different days, I like to home in on the sections where I know the channels I watch are, I like to read some of the articles etc. We don't buy newspapers, so don't see any point buying one just for TV listings.

SistersOfPercy · 08/12/2014 16:26

I don't buy weekly TV guides and I do use the skyguide for that, but as you say Christmas is just different isn't it! I need to see the whole two weeks and plan every crap movie.

My big sis used a red biro.

I remember getting our first colour telly.... it all seemed quite green.

FestiveElf · 08/12/2014 16:33

Yes, self highlighted Radio/TV Times is a must! Xmas Smile

OOAOML · 08/12/2014 16:34

What is the Sky guide like? We have Freesat and I find the onscreen guide pretty useless.

MirrorMirror · 08/12/2014 16:42

Haven't bought Radio or Tv Times for a few years but reading this thread has made me all nostalgic for past Christmasses when I would spend ages planning my tv viewing! Will be getting my copies tomorrow now Xmas Grin

Drania · 08/12/2014 16:44

Radio Times is a necessity at Christmas time! He is BU.

SistersOfPercy · 08/12/2014 16:48

Sky guide is ok, but it's just not the smell of a freshly printed mag and a biro in your hand is it?

Btw, according to Google, only London and the South can get their Christmas Radio Times at the moment. The rest of the country have to wait until Weds 10. Disgraceful!

SistersOfPercy · 08/12/2014 16:51

Oh, thanks Butta I'd decided to cancel my delivered copy and nip into Tesco and buy one so I can start planning now because this thread has ignited my inner circler again but I'll leave it until Wednesday then.

Yellow highlighter here!

OneSkinnyChip · 08/12/2014 16:56

Nostalgia here too :) We used to put a star beside everything we wanted to watch. YADNBU.

Crinkle77 · 08/12/2014 16:57

I buy the papers at the weekend and they all had the xmas listings so no need to buy a Radio Times. Then again not everyone buys a weekend paper.

pilates · 08/12/2014 17:11

Yes with you on that one Sisters.

Def part of Christmas build up for me.

Gatehouse77 · 08/12/2014 17:15

The Christmas bumper Radio Times is part of our traditions - we each go through it and highlight what we'd like to watch/record!

Therefore, YANBU!

ithoughtofitfirst · 08/12/2014 17:27

My mum and dad have this argument weekly. Apart from with the longer Christmas issue which is OBV tradition.

Greengrow · 08/12/2014 17:27

Do people watch the electric television at Christmas?

Screenclean · 08/12/2014 17:36

The electric TV as opposed to what? The wind up one? Confused

emmelinelucas · 08/12/2014 17:36

They do, Green. Even on black and white portables.
Like me.
I will buy a colour tv when old faithful conks in, but she just keeps on going.

nachohousekeeper · 08/12/2014 17:40

My MIL has a full on clipboard/highlighter pen regime going on the minute the Radio Times hits her doormat!!

I loath TV listings magazines generally but the Christmas one is an exception. It's a bit dull and soul destroying scrolling through the Sky planner to see if there's anything you fancy.

SistersOfPercy · 08/12/2014 17:53

We watch an electric TV, on a Sunday DH brings out the gramaphone and all the kids gather round to listen to Waltzes.... Wink
