Yesterday I commented to DH that I needed to add the Radio Times to my online Christmas shop. He said we don't need a TV guide because we have a digital TV guide with Sky. My point was it wasn't Christmas without the Radio Times containing a crap crossword, 80% holiday ads and a few TV listings.
He says IABU, I say he is
(but either way I've ordered one!)

So come on MN Jury, Christmas TV guides are tradition, right?

We always had a different coloured highlighter each (DM, DF, DS and DD) and we all went through and circled what we wanted to watch - and then the bargaining started.... We could watch one channel, record another one - so if there were three different things on at the same time, it was a case of everyone arguing discussing whose choice was going to miss out Grin
Those were the days...!

MauriceTheCat · 08/12/2014 18:14

LTB(bah humbug)... some people are not worth saving

Lurknomoreladies · 08/12/2014 20:59

YADMNU and must LTB if he refuses to go along with the Christmas Radio Times purchase. However if you purchase the TV Times as well YABU Grin Grin

Lurknomoreladies · 08/12/2014 20:59

Lordy, I don't know what happened to my abbreviation there!

SistersOfPercy · 08/12/2014 21:10

I'm going to Tesco tomorrow, buoyed by the news up thread that other northerners have found an RT I'm off on the search.
I'll do all my circling whilst he's at work then casually pull it out Christmas eve hehe

If he still complains then I shall LTB and cite unreasonable festive behavior Grin

Not true that they're only out in London etc today. I bought one in a north east branch of Tesco!

Iwantacampervan · 08/12/2014 21:26

I only buy the Radio Times at Christmas - the rest of the year I use the TV guide from the Saturday paper. We used to circle all the films and programmes we wanted to watch or record.
I always feel sad when the fortnight is up and the RT gets recycled as the holidays are nearly over.

I will look for this year's copy tomorrow.

Julius02 · 08/12/2014 21:29

I always buy the Radio Times at Xmas - makes me so nostalgic for the days when we would be so excited to see what was going to be on.... The rest of the year we make do with the Saturday Mail to book - no other will do!

Minisoksmakehardwork · 08/12/2014 22:17

Yanbu. The Christmas radio times is one of our family traditions. Christmas would be incomplete without it.

PunkrockerGirl · 08/12/2014 22:24

Dh bought our Christmas RT today (Midlands). I'm so looking forward to looking through it to see what crap is on over the festive period.

Pipbin · 08/12/2014 22:34

I bought mine at the weekend. I never buy one normally as I use an app on my phone. I got one this year as mil is coming to us and it's only polite.

loulou282 · 08/12/2014 23:05

YANBU, it's not christmas til you've got the special radio times and used a special highlighter to highlight the programmes you want to watch. This was a big event in our house growing up. I seem to remember my sister and I haven't different coloured highlighter pens one year so we could identify who wanted to watch what!

puntasticusername · 08/12/2014 23:17

LTB.

TheLostPelvicFloorOfPoosh · 08/12/2014 23:25

Ahh the bumper Christmas Radio Times - feel the heft of telly heaven!

I have mine here by my side - you're quite right, it just isn't Christmas without it, and you even get a free Paddington book from mothercare!

Minerves · 09/12/2014 01:11

big part of christmas is everyone going through the tv listings and circling things on paper, it's not the same on screens!

Idontseeanysontarans · 09/12/2014 11:06

DH is bringing home highlighter pens tonight for the annual Christmas viewing argument discussion Smile
He agrees your DH is beyond hope Wink

Iwantacampervan · 09/12/2014 11:59

I bought my Radio Times this morning - I am going to sit with coloured pens this evening!

MrsSippy · 09/12/2014 12:09

I might be flying in the face of all Christmas tradition, but I'm not going to bother. Last time I bought one there were loads of films etc. down as 'TBA'...how can I know if I want to watch it if it hasn't even been decided by the TV channel yet??

waithorse · 09/12/2014 12:39

I couldn't live with a man like this. Ltb Grin

SistersOfPercy · 09/12/2014 13:50

waithorse Grin

Not been out today so will have to covertly acquire the contraband tomorrow. My highlighter is at the read though!

My ds is a marvelous boy, he's just called in and presented me with this, and highlighters. That's my afternoon sorted then, the question is categorisation of the colours. I'm thinking yellow for 'must watch' green 'try and watch' orange 'that looks ok' and pink for 'Piss of dh' at the top of every page Grin

YANBU. I am ambivalent personally, but my DH ran out and got one as soon as it came out. He also buys the Now albums on the day of release, god love him.

Screenclean · 12/12/2014 23:20

I bought the wrong one!!!

I went out, planned a trip in to my not very busy day and came
Back with the wrong one! Xmas Angry

MillionToOneChances · 12/12/2014 23:25

It's the only time I ever buy a TV Guide. YANBU

Iwantacampervan · 02/01/2015 19:01

Last day of the RT today - Christmas must be nearly over (sob). Back to the weekly listings from the Saturday paper, not the same though.
