To leave a stroppy note on this car?

People keep parking on the grass verge outside my house. It forms part of my garden but there is no kerb. Earlier this year I filled the craters left on it and re-seeded. I put large white rocks along the edge, about 10 inches from the road, so they can clearly be seen.

I've now got great big holes again where 2 visiting 4 x 4 vehicles have RUN OVER the rocks and mashed them into the ground.

Yesterday I left a note asking this person not to park there. Cue much shouting, swearing and grumbling to the neighbour they were visiting.

If you see white rocks on a grass verge, do you think, oh I'll just park on it anyway? What else can I do? It's just so fucking RUDE

Can you ring your council, see if they can double-yellow outside your property?

I'd plant bushes or flowers there OP, possibly even a small fence. Or more pointy rocks to ruin their tires.

Yanbu that is completely unacceptable. It would an understandable mistake if you hadn't clearly marked the grass with a boundary but to just drive over the rocks and damage them is horrible behaviour.

The council are not interested. When I spoke to them earlier in the year, they said I was not allowed to put a fence up but I could take measures to "discourage" parking. The yellow lines would only be done for "safety" apparently. Or the white ones.

Yes that would royally piss me off, like addicted said, i would be tempted to plant a bush or small fence and I would probably call my local pcso to ask advice because they are parking on private property.

Where can I get pointy rocks? I've got no spare cash and they'd need to be pretty big.

I'd put a little fence there, just a 1-2 foot one. I think they're cheap enough to buy.

The council said no fence at all because the grass merges straight on to the road. Narrow road, no footpath. Obviously I can see this would be a hazard. It would also be pointless as some twat would have knocked it down within five minutes.

Would some garden centre have rocks? They don't have to be pointy, just biggish, so they'll bugger up car wheels.

I mean no fence marking the border between the grass and the road. I've got one about 6 feet in.

If you can't put a fence up, could you get away with those little posts with chain between them that are low (not explaining very well, sorry).

I'd go with the shrubs or flowers within the rock border. Make it as awkward as possible to park on there.

Actually, there may be a restrictive covenant (think that's what it's called) forbidding this - our house has one about fences round the front.

That doesn't stop you putting in a low hedge as a marker or those border edging strips as an alternative.

Or a sign "Fuck off - this is my garden not the road"

Border edging might work. It has to be tall enough to be effective, but not tall enough to constitute a fence.

can you use cement to make bigger rocks? (I know this will require some spending but can't think of anything free sorry) - I know someone who has used a bucket as a mould and has painted the blocks white.

They are too big to drive over and just the right height to take the trim off the bottom of the car if you're a bit tight talking the corner [voice of bitter experience] so might be a deterrent.

Can you put something up just a foot or so back from the edge, therefore not leaving enough room for anyone to try and park? If then cause damage to their car or your garden can you claim on their car insurance?
Could you speak to your neighbours and ask them to tell their visitors not to park there as it is your garden?

Emotions I have spoken to the neighbours, they know it's a problem. To be fair they probably hadn't realised where the visitor had parked - they wouldn't be able to see from their house.

I also get people parking there to go to the park opposite. Or else they park on the footpath on the opposite side of the road, but that's another thread entirely!
