People keep parking on the grass verge outside my house. It forms part of my garden but there is no kerb. Earlier this year I filled the craters left on it and re-seeded. I put large white rocks along the edge, about 10 inches from the road, so they can clearly be seen.

I've now got great big holes again where 2 visiting 4 x 4 vehicles have RUN OVER the rocks and mashed them into the ground.

Yesterday I left a note asking this person not to park there. Cue much shouting, swearing and grumbling to the neighbour they were visiting.

If you see white rocks on a grass verge, do you think, oh I'll just park on it anyway? What else can I do? It's just so fucking RUDE Angry

Thats a totally different matter scousadelic. The bloke was using that to sell something and of course the council wouldnt want that to go on. The OP is talking about a verge that doesnt belong to her. It belongs to the council that she is probably renting from.

Pipbin · 29/11/2014 18:09

No, the council have said it belongs to the house.
Where have you got the idea that she rents from the council from?

Short white posts is a good idea. The council have put them here to stop people parking on some verges.

IrianofWay · 29/11/2014 18:10

Replace the grass with a pond. Full of piranhas!

Bastards! Happens round here all the time. Not private gardens but a small area of park. They drive around the bollards where the footpath crosses into the park and there is just about enough room to pass with care. Grass is almost gone and it's just a churned up mess. Council don't do anything because it eases the dreadful parking situation a little.

A rockery including bits of broken china.

MyBootsAreMuddy · 29/11/2014 18:15

Someone in our villa has something like this www.amazon.co.uk/Plastic-Garden-Chain-Fence-chain/dp/B004D6T7U6. You could always get some chain then put some little wooden posts in to make it lower, this would not restrict visibility to motorists and with a few flowers would look quite nice.

Tinks42 · 29/11/2014 18:16

Let's ask the op then pipbin, do you rent from the council? even so, then if private renting she should take it up with the owner. If on a corner then its not safe to do what you are suggesting.

MyBootsAreMuddy · 29/11/2014 18:18

Bloody auto correct! That should have said in our VILLAGE,not villa!

Tinks42 · 29/11/2014 18:20

Do you all live in lala land? if you live on a road then there is always going to be traffic and parking Grin

dailygrowl · 29/11/2014 18:26

The white posts have my vote - they might work. I sympathise with OP. I would never park on someone else's grass - I don't even park on the footpath in case someone with a buggy/in a wheelchair needs space to get past, but apparently I am "too polite" for my local area, where many people constantly drive & park like maniacs. Well, it's about 50% maniacs and 50% courteous & civilised. A lot of 4x4 drivers in the maniac category.

slug · 29/11/2014 18:29

Some of these?

MehsMum · 29/11/2014 18:51

Oh, if it's not the council's... pyracantha all the way! With posts.

KillmeNow · 29/11/2014 19:11

Perhaps the white stones you have put down so far have been that little bit too small to be of concern to the 4x4 drivers? They need to be about 18 inches high at least.

I think ready mix cement put into a bucket to set is the best bet.

If you dont like the brutal look of the bucket shape you can use some sand or soil at a push to create a softer shape in the bottom of the bucket and then line with a sturdy plastic bag. You can repeat for as many as your mix lets you have. And you can even make the shape hollow to save on mix if you put a smaller bucket inside and pour round it.Painted white they can look similar to natural rocks but with the benefit of being all the same size and will be lighter to move into place if they are hollow.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 29/11/2014 19:12

Tinks I am responsible for the property, why do I have no recourse?

OP posts:
LuisSuarezTeeth · 29/11/2014 19:13

Yes Killme thats what I think now - the stones are too small

LuisSuarezTeeth · 29/11/2014 19:14

AmserGwin · 29/11/2014 19:22

AlistairSim · 29/11/2014 20:13

What about getting some old tyres and planting some flowers in them?

Yep, you can get them off the next inconsiderate fucker who parks there.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 29/11/2014 21:05

Alistair genius Grin

Fallulah · 29/11/2014 21:19

Did you say you've already got a fence a bit further back? Could it be that which is creating the impression that your garden ends further back and this verge is 'spare'? Do you need this fence?

southeastastra · 29/11/2014 21:19

put a sign that says 'quicksand beware', round here they use the little chain fences mybootsaremuddy linked.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 29/11/2014 21:35

Yes Fallulah but it's very obvious that it's part of my garden (white rocks and all)
