People keep parking on the grass verge outside my house. It forms part of my garden but there is no kerb. Earlier this year I filled the craters left on it and re-seeded. I put large white rocks along the edge, about 10 inches from the road, so they can clearly be seen.

I've now got great big holes again where 2 visiting 4 x 4 vehicles have RUN OVER the rocks and mashed them into the ground.

Yesterday I left a note asking this person not to park there. Cue much shouting, swearing and grumbling to the neighbour they were visiting.

If you see white rocks on a grass verge, do you think, oh I'll just park on it anyway? What else can I do? It's just so fucking RUDE Angry

My mum and dad have had a similar problem. The front of their house and the 3 neighbours forms like an L shape with parking for 4 cars out front.

Mum and dads front garden is on the entrance and exit to the car park.

Their lazy scumbag twunt neighbours drive over the corner of their front garden all the time!

My dad got so fed up he put in a load of thick, wooden posts about 2 foot tall around the end of their garden.

It's hilarious as the neighbours have hit them so many times! Dad doesn't care as he just moved the post back but I'm glad it damages their cars because they shouldn't be such shit drivers!!!!

OP what about some bricks? Not too pretty but you can prob get from freecycle. Just layer some up of but them with he longer side facing up. Or if you've been offered paving, use that to make ending but lying it upwards and not flat.

You could them go and get some wild plants or shrubs to go along it.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 30/11/2014 09:13

Thanks I think I'll try bricks if I can't get anything else

I agree with a PP who suggested rosemary and lavender. Broom would also be good.

LizzieVereker · 30/11/2014 09:31

I've come to this rather late, but just wanted to say that I misread Gamerwidow's post upthread, and thought she had suggested pointy sticks and snakes.

Snakes might work - adders? Or cobras? Really big ones.

Damnautocorrect · 30/11/2014 09:41

I'm guessing the no fence rule could be for restricted sight if your pulling out a drive or turning? Not because it's not the OPs land, some new developments also have stipulations like that.

I think I know the kind of verge you mean, another idea is stumps in the ground painted white. I wouldn't do anything spikey in case someone trips over it. Round here those verges are either massive rocks or little stumps

maddening · 30/11/2014 10:03

I travel along a road that seems to have the same issue - some houses have white rocks others have garden canes at intervals.

HSMMaCM · 30/11/2014 10:23

I used to live somewhere like this and the front had to be clear for car visibility. So ... No 6 foot fences, but lots of little fences, rocks or bushes around.

KatieKaye · 30/11/2014 10:33

You said there was about 6 feet from road to your wall?

I'd go for the mini-graveyard look - three long mounds of earth with a wooden cross at the top of each with RIP in large letters. You could even plant a bush at the top of each one for added effect.

Shouldn't be too expensive and hopefully even the most brazen parker would think twice about parking on a grave (real or otherwise)

MaidOfStars · 30/11/2014 10:47

If the council won't let you fence it off because of visibility issues, doesn't that mean anyone parking there presents a visibility hazard?

wowfudge · 30/11/2014 11:03

Tinks - are you one of those highly annoying people who also thinks that because the pavement is next to the road it is perfectly acceptable to park all over that too?

Bigger rocks OP and a sign strategically on the corner where someone might drive into it.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 30/11/2014 12:41

Lizzie - snakes Grin

Katie - I reckon your idea might attract ALL the wrong attention Grin

Maid that's a very good point.

I'm going for a very heavy pot with crap in it for now, surrounded by the rocks I've got. Just going to collect any large rocks I can find over winter and deal with it when it's not so wet. I'm resisting the urge to curtain twitch Grin

Pangurban · 30/11/2014 12:45

Do your prohibited from planting your garden? If not thick woody branches sticking out could put be a deterrent? Or as someone mentioned a brutal rockery.

Pangurban · 30/11/2014 12:47

Are you, not do you?

LuisSuarezTeeth · 30/11/2014 12:47

Now I like the idea of a "brutal" rockery!

OP posts:
LuisSuarezTeeth · 30/11/2014 12:49

Not prohibited no, as I say the issue is safety and visibility on the road. It's beyond me why people just can't take the hint. All the houses have big driveways!

OP posts:
emotionsecho · 30/11/2014 12:51

Brutal rockery with seriously scary, viciously spiky cacti!

Pangurban · 30/11/2014 12:55

Something low enough not to impede views. More difficult if you're on a corner or hill. Mind you, some one else's 4x4 parked there is much worse for your safety and visibility. At least you can control the height of any structures/flora you install.

ProfYaffle · 30/11/2014 13:35

Something I've seen a lot round here is a variation on the bucket cement mould thing. Use 2 round bowls, about the size of washing up bowls, as moulds. Then cement the 2 resulting half spheres together putting the flat sides together. You end up with a nearly sphere, painted white they look quite good, certainly less utilitarian than bucket shapes.

CruCru · 30/11/2014 18:25

Giant clay pots with rosemary, lavender etc in it.

emotionsecho · 30/11/2014 18:59

Right, I have an idea - you know those giant inflatable 'Mr Blobby' type things that suddenly inflate and stand up, you need one of those laid out discreetly with a trigger mechanism placed where their tyres will activate it and then woosh up it comes, you'd scare the living daylights out of them as it bounced and leered at them through the windscreen, you could even add a tape recording of scary cackling laughter to complete the horror.Grin

UterusUterusGhali · 30/11/2014 20:28

Haha!
Brilliant, Emo.

You can get one of those big inflatable Santas

ghostyslovesheep · 30/11/2014 20:33

get a load of these - they scare the life out of me Grin

LuisSuarezTeeth · 30/11/2014 20:33

emotions yes yes yes! Grin

An update: I happened across a very large piece of sandstone on my travels. Though I am a fair maiden I put my leather work gloves on and hefted it in the boot of my car accosted a prince, who deposited it on my emarald garden bit of grass and thus far, no large vehicle has deigned to park on it! Probably because I would shoot them
