Hello I'm new to all of this so please go easy on me!

My dd is 13 months and called Emma. Only somehow Doris has evolved.

It started off as a nickname but in the last six months it became the default choice. Now she seems like a Doris. We bizarrely answers to both. She also answers to Monkey!

Now I know I'm probably giving her an identity crisis and I know Doris is a marmite name but it seems to have evolved...

So much so that in a few years the change could be made by deed poll.

No you are not nuts! I have given my dd a similar old fashioned nickname! I won't say what it is as it might out me! Like your dd, mine also responds to both names! I think its cute!

I might be biased as Doris to me is my great aunt who lived to 99 and looked like a mean old skeksie from the dark crystal movies...

As a child I was called a different name than the one on my birth certificate. When I was around 11, my parents let me choose. I chose the nickname.

Dd's name is Lucy but she has been called Pearl since she was tiny (because she is small and precious) I wouldn't change the name by deed poll though because I suspect that she might prefer Lucy when she's older (11 now) Funnily enough I call her older sister Lou when her name is nothing like it.

I love Doris - DD3 was almost an Ada - I also love Pearl

But I have to vote for Emma as it's DD2's name and I love it!

Partly for me it's the name Doris which is the nuts bit.

I mean, what girl would thank her parents for legally changing her lovely given name to Doris.

It's cute and appropriate now cos she's wee. She might not appreciate Doris at 14 so much.

We call our DD Minnie (her name is nothing like this!) but it wouldn't occur to me to change it by deed poll. When I was growing up my parents called me myrtle, I'm bloody glad they didn't change my name to this!! Doris is in the same vein as Myrtle to me.

That would be so sad op as nick names are great as family names. all of our kids have them but proper names they use at school etc.

Sorry Doris to me sounds like a lady in a nursing home but Emma reminds me of a beautiful intelligent stunning charming witty strong woman.

Doris is a big no no.

You could add it as a middle name and she could choose which name to be known as when she is older.

In primary she was called Pearl because that's the name she introduced herself as but since starting secondary she's called herself Lucy because that was the name on the register. Her friends switch between the two and dd answers to them both. At home and among friends and relatives she is always Pearl.

Its similar to Alice and Iris, both of which are considered pretty names.
