Hello I'm new to all of this so please go easy on me!

My dd is 13 months and called Emma. Only somehow Doris has evolved.

It started off as a nickname but in the last six months it became the default choice. Now she seems like a Doris. We bizarrely answers to both. She also answers to Monkey!

Now I know I'm probably giving her an identity crisis and I know Doris is a marmite name but it seems to have evolved...

So much so that in a few years the change could be made by deed poll.

Is this nuts?

Bertie, sorry, just seen your question to me - I'm glad I did the deed poll really but only did it when I was getting married as I hated the idea of having a name that just wasn't mine and I didn't relate to at all used during the ceremony (I was told by the registrar that I'd have no choice without deed poll and I've never beencalled by the name on my birth cert). Day to day it makes llittle difference - my bank account, qualification certificates etc were all in my used name, they just didn't match birth cert or passport. I had a couple of problems when asked for photo ID and the names didn't match- deed poll sorts all that out!

Our Dd's nickname is Doris, she enjoys having a quirky name and her mood usually dictates which name she will answer to, she won't answer to Doris when she's grumpy, but she loves the attention she gets when people usually elderly ladies stop her and say how lovely it is that she's called Doris. it's become a sentimental family name for her.

Doris is a super-cool nickname. No need to change by deed-poll. Just enjoy. My granny was called Doris btw!

spooky just posted about liking the name Doris in baby names!
I love the name. Go for it!

*Can you imagine if your dc's name suddenly had a negative association, like it was slang in TOWIE?
*

for a while when I was young, emma was short for haemorrhoid.

Sorry about the delay in replying. . .
It wasn't by deed poll. It was actually changed on my birth certificate.
