A five-year-old boy with a brain tumour has been taken without consent from hospital by his parents, sparking a major police hunt for the family.

Ashya King was taken from Southampton General Hospital and is now believed to be in France with his parents and six siblings.

Police said he needs constant medical care and there are "serious concerns" for his life if he is not found today.

The family, from Southsea, Portsmouth, were travelling in a grey coloured Hyundai I800 Style CRDI, registration KP60 HWK.

I thought the whole point of extradition was that you can't refuse it?

potbellyroast · 01/09/2014 09:11

ici can I be clear then. Because you think that the parents shouldn't have taken the child from hospital they are being treated correctly by being kept in custody, being refused access to him AND their other children? That the extradition to the uk is correct and proper?

If you say that this is proportionate then all I can say is I hope I never come across you in RL to make any decisions that affect me or my family.

GimmeMySquash · 01/09/2014 09:12

I am sure the parents could use human rights to a family life to stay in Spain, never mind false imprisonment, they have seven children in Spain, one ill in hospital. I gather "the hook" and various others have used this human right to fight leaving the UK in the past.

Now front page of the DM with comments section open!!

diddl · 01/09/2014 10:01

Is the whole thing then that they didn't officially discharge Ashya, just left the hospital with him?

Whatever the rights and wrongs of that, talk about cracking a nut with a sledgehammer!

Someone posted this in the FB group a sample template you could use/edit:

Dear X,

I am writing to you as my MP to express my disgust at the treatment of the King family. As you know, the parents of Ashya King have been pursued to Spain, where they were arrested and are now appearing in court for extradition. The family have done nothing wrong, they were simply seeking the best treatment they could for their son.

The current situation, where Ashya is alone in hospital and his parents are not allowed to visit him, is the cruellest of all, and can be in the interests of no one. Please bring any pressure to bear that you may, to stop the authorities pursuing this matter, and to allow the family the freedom to find alternative treatments.

I know that the King family is not in your constituency, but I think the issues of state control and parental choice are ones that should involve all of us.

I think if I were in their position now, one of them should accept the extradition and go back and fight it in the uk and the other should refuse in the hope they get bail.

You can also email the Police & Crime Commissioner, who I think is the only one who can stop this sorry mess:

All this about hospitals being the best place - I don't think so, no always. My mum was terminal and only had a few weeks left. She was treated terribly in hospital - we couldn't wait to get her home so she could die in her own home with people that cared for her.

I only hope this family get the chance to do the same if that's what they think is best.

I would like to see this Just giving account and know how funds are going to be used and by who. I know other parents used funds given by the public, to find a missing child, to make a couple of mortgage payments.

No, potbellyroast, you aren't being clear, and you cannot extrapolate that from what I have posted. In particular, you have inexplicably chosen to ignore the fact that I said:

"I don't know enough about the facts to know whether they have committed an offence or not - and neither do you."

It's ridiculous to claim I have said anything about the extradition - I obviously haven't. And in fact, on another thread, I have specifically said that I think Ashya should be with his parents.

It really is quite offensive to attribute things to posters that they haven't said, and to misrepresent what they have said, solely so that you can be unpleasant about them.
