Following the sad news of Robin Williams death someone who I am friendly with posted a status calling him a coward, saying anyone who tries to kill them self is a coward and an idiot.

I texted him saying he was out of order, clearly has no idea what he's talking about and needs to educate himself and stop being a prick. He replied 'it's not new news I've always been honest on my opinions on this subject'

I was sectioned a few years ago after struggling severely with depression and anxiety and trying to kill myself numerous times. But even if I hadn't AIBU to think he's an idiot and not want to be friendly with him anymore?

Unfriend him. There are a couple of people in my life that suffer with depression and they are the bravest people I know.

Anyone who can be so uncaring about another human being who has reached such a devastating low that they can find no way out should not be in your life. It sounds to me like he might have his own issues related to this subject, but that's not your problem.

Yanbu, do people not understand how seriously ill and tortured a person is to take their own life. I would delete him too.

It's not surprising that you find his comment upsetting - and perhaps he should have thought of you (if he knows about your troubles) before posting. But has he ever lost someone to suicide? Sometimes people who have been bereaved by suicide are very angry with the deceased - which is not an entirely unreasonable response.

Although we're all allowed an opinion, he should know when to keep it to himself. YANBU for being annoyed, it was very insensitive of him.
I think it was an inappropriate and downright nasty thing to say, about Robin Williams and anyone else who has committed suicide, or considered/tried it.

I'm only here because in May and December of 2013, I wasn't brave enough to take my own life.

The news about RW has really thrown me. Why do I still live and he had to die?

it's a common thought on suicide. not one I agree with but I have heard it a lot. personally I don't think it's a brave or cowardly thing to do but an action of hopelessness and very sad for everyone involved

Hi. Well, I've made it to the shower and back but then stopped.

I can't bear to put the radio on, which normally keeps me company while DH is at work. I can't hear about him every hour.

I think I'm actually beyond the point of taking action now but I am very low today

People like him are horrible - so many myths about suicide... it's 'selfish', 'cowardly' and so on. Depression is an ILLNESS... Jeez. I would defriend him and hope other people do too.
