To bf in front of other people's DC?

BIL and SIL have dropped off their DD and DS at ours for the weekend. They are 6 and 5. I have an 8 month old DS. My niece asked me what DS ate, and I mentioned bf. She asked what that was and I explained (although possibly was a mistake to talk about suckling puppies...)

Anyway sent SIL a what I thought was a funny text about it, and she has texted back asking me not to bf in front of them.

I think that is outrageous - it is my house, and bf is totally normal. I don't want to offend but I don't think bf is offensive.

AIBU to go ahead as usual?

Course you're not BU. Your SIL is a loon! Good opportunity to educate those kids by the sound of it...

CalamityKate1 · 27/06/2014 19:53

YANBU.

Your SIL is.

PorkPieandPickle · 27/06/2014 19:53

Tell her If she doesn't want her children to see you bf, to come back and pick her kids up and not use you as a free babysitter! Cheeky mare!

YANBU- it's YOUR home!

Jengnr · 27/06/2014 19:53

Tell her to come and get them then.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/06/2014 19:54

Go ahead as normal. If they don't like it, they can pick their children up.

iwasyoungonce · 27/06/2014 19:54

SIL is a loon. I'd be tempted to ignore and if it ever coms up just say "I assumed you were joking!"

(In fact, are you sure she wasn't?)

vichill · 27/06/2014 19:55

Were they bf by her?

HopefulHamster · 27/06/2014 19:55

Yep, tell her to come and get them if you're not allowed to feed your child!

everythingisonmurtaghlist · 27/06/2014 19:56

I too would be telling her to come pick the children up if she is serious about you not feeding your child in front of hers.

I concur with the others

You're feeding your baby FFA not pole dancing naked in front of them

everythingisonmurtaghlist · 27/06/2014 19:57

And I say that as someone who ff.

GeorgieJo · 27/06/2014 19:57

OK phew - was wondering if I was being really insensitive.

Pretty sure she wasn't joking because she said if I absolutely had to I could bf in front of her daughter but definitely not her son... Shock

Bf is pretty normal in my family, but nobody in my DH's family did so I always feel a bit nervous about it

Oh for gods sake really its boobs we alll have them and sometimes babies are fed our of them your sil is a loon obviously

cornishbaby · 27/06/2014 19:58

'Oh dear, if you feel that way I suggest you come back and collect your children asap'

LoblollyBoy · 27/06/2014 19:58

YANBU. What did she think she was doing dropping them off for the weekend in these circumstances if she has this issue?

treaclesoda · 27/06/2014 19:59

Your sil is a loon. That's the long and the short of it.

callamia · 27/06/2014 20:00

That's some bizarre attitude.
She might need to to raise that you're probably not going to starve your baby to death this weekend, so she'd better come and get the children, or maybe just the boy.
Those kids are being set up with a weird bunch of issues there.

TheLovelyBoots · 27/06/2014 20:00

Is this thread a wind-up?

You should tell her you're busy breastfeeding her children but you'll respond later when you have more time.

CalamityKate1 · 27/06/2014 20:01

She's thick and weird.

Tell her to come and pick them up.

bumpiesonamission · 27/06/2014 20:01

bloody in laws! would be tempted to start the sex Ed talk on Sunday afternoon!

Nancery · 27/06/2014 20:02

That's bonkers.

TiredFeet · 27/06/2014 20:02

She is being ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous

Mrsjayy · 27/06/2014 20:02

You know what just feed your baby if the boy asks jyst say you are feeding their cousin a baby head is in the way he isnt going to see anything

Timeforabiscuit · 27/06/2014 20:03

Your sil is a loon!

I'd send her a text saying "ha ha don't be so bloody ridiculous! Please tell me your joking? You want me to either leave your kids unsupervised for thirty minutes or starve my child?"
