To think that a lot of the time having someone in the family with a disability does mean being long term poor?

Obviously this is not the case for everyone but it certainly is for me!

I know that families with a disabled member do get extra help in the form of extra tax credits, DLA, carer's allowance ha! etc but aibu to think that due to the often extra expenses that are incurred by having someone with a disability in the family all this doesn't go as far as you might think?

Due to my current circumstances, I am not able to work and I can't see this changing in the near to moderate future unless something drastically changes. This is not unusual, as a lot of us just can't work around all the medical appointments, time off required to look after them etc so working is just not feasible but I hate the idea that this current situation is all I have to look forward to in the future and that my financial situation will not really improve :(

Aibu to think I'm not alone in this and that for a lot of people having to manage the needs to someone with a disability means they are struggle in the long term? In most circumstances if your money situation is tight you can either try and earn more money or cut your expenses but often people with a disabled family member can't do either!

LeftyLoony I was horrified to read about what happened at that food bank. I started a thread about it on the board last night and I totally agree. Its benefit bashing that has led to it and it is a hate crime and should be treated as such.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 31/05/2014 23:43

Talking about neighbours, I'm scared everytime I'm in my garden that someone will take a photo of me sans crutches, or hanging up washing, or something like that, and thats from a thread i saw here a while ago :(

yeah, this is all shits and giggles, sitting, watching tv, enjoying my free money.

Smilesandpiles · 31/05/2014 23:44

How is anyone supposed to take that campaign seriously when posters like THAT are allowed to "have their opinon" and not be deleted when reported?

Foodbank? What did I miis?

LeftyLoony · 31/05/2014 23:45

Yy smiles. When you're getting abuse and criminal damage happening to you in RL because of disability then you get it in one of the only places you get social contact (because disability is isolating - my online friendships really are vital) it's soul destroying.

It's going to be pulled for troll hunting.

LeftyLoony · 31/05/2014 23:48

food bank

FidelineandFumblin · 31/05/2014 23:49

So really the general public should be grateful for families collecting benefits as carers - they are saving the country a fortune.

This.

I can never grasp how people don't understand this.

LeftyLoony · 31/05/2014 23:51

They don't, Fideline.

Direct quote I heard:

"I wish I could get paid for looking after my own child. You brought them into thus world, you support them."

FiveFingerDeathPunch · 31/05/2014 23:52

surely this thread can not be pulled for troll hunting.
mn has a campaign called this is my childwww.mumsnet.com/campaigns/this-is-my-child
so they should delete the posts by said troll.

LeftyLoony · 31/05/2014 23:52

thus this

FidelineandFumblin · 31/05/2014 23:52

It's going to be pulled for troll hunting.

Then I suggest we ALL systematically report all dubious posts requesting an explanation of why Happy is being allowed to flout the supporting parents ethos.

Smilesandpiles · 31/05/2014 23:53

It's not troll hunting when we know she the bloody troll and always has been. MNHQ know this too but seem to side with it every single time.

They might as well delete it as it's the only bloody thing they seem to stand by at the moment, deleting threads that are supposed to help carers and the disabled.

FidelineandFumblin · 31/05/2014 23:53

That foodbank incident is revolting. This country is losing all compassion.

YouTheCat · 31/05/2014 23:56

The reason she hasn't been banned for trolling is because that would mean all the times she has been reported that MNHQ's judgement has been off and they would have to admit to getting it wrong.

She needs to change her name to Bitter instead of Happy.

Smilesandpiles · 31/05/2014 23:56

I'll add to your quotes:

"why don't you get a job, you don't do anything else"

"When are you going to get a job? He doesn't need looking after anymore"

"Why don't you just put him in care, it's not as though he'll be missed and he'll be better off"

That last one really got to me. I've refused to talk to my neighbours since.

LeftyLoony · 31/05/2014 23:56

I started saying this stuff would happen in 2010.
I was told I was a rabid, frothing Lefty and it'd never happen.
When you're at the sharp end EVERY DAYyou start to wonder what is going on. You start to wonder who us against you.

I've even had to go nc with family because they believed the propaganda.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 31/05/2014 23:58

maryz

If childcare is the answer to everything, what about all the childminders who are only childminder so they can be SAHP whose are despised.

And saving the gov money well the same poster who came out with that snide gem about SAHP and childminding also said that CA should not be considered to be earnings because you don't earn it,it's all free money for nothing

Darkesteyes · 31/05/2014 23:58

Fideline my faith in human nature is dying bit by bit each day.

Maryz - I despise that bitch. You are by no means alone.

Darkesteyes · 01/06/2014 00:00

Lefty you should have heard the shit my DM was coming out with tonight. Trying to compare 1968 to now.

I retorted that she didn't have to contend with things like this.
