Amazing animal videos on FB et al

So, you know how there are MILLIONS of animal videos of animals doing amazing things...cats breastfeeding ducklings, cats saving kids from dogs, whales thanking people for disentangling them from lines, lions, bears and tigers being friends etc etc etc

At what point do people stop saying THIS IS AMAZING about each and every video like it's a one-off, and acknowledge that animals are far more intelligent, compassionate, multi-faceted etc, they just can't speak human.

AND STOP TREATING THEM LIKE SHIT. Stop the speceism

And not just farming them cruelly to eat them...

Zoos

Sealife centres

Destruction of habitats so we can have golf courses and palm oil

Experimenting so even more of us can live even longer with lipstick on and destroy even more of their homes...

hides thread

Hullygully · 15/05/2014 15:44

I can't believe everyone doesn't agree, it's so self-evident.

I do agree hulls. But I have to adopt a head in the sand mentality when it comes to animal cruelty. I do my own bit but realise I am never going to change the world. Sad

Hullygully · 15/05/2014 16:28

WE CAN DO IT

I have never ever had so few responses on a thread...guess that's my answer

I agree, hate those videos (not seen many due to not being a FBer) and am astounded that people cant understand the intelligence of animals. My dream is have an animal rescue centre, I would be so happy being surrounded by more animals than humans.

The more I know humans the more I love animals.

NaughtySpottyBengalCat · 15/05/2014 18:12

I don't see people saying animals are amazing as a one off, or considering them stupid; rather that for many people animals are a real passion in their lives. I personally find everything about animals amazing, and the more I learn about them the more amazing they become. I certainly don't find them stupid. I enjoy watching videos about them. It doesn't matter how many videos I watch, I will always find a one thing new to admire in the animals I see :) Maybe some people find animals amazing in the same way many parents find the birth of their children amazing. It's just a pretty average biological function. It is still amazing though.

"My dream is (to?) have an animal rescue centre"

To rescue which species from what, OneStep?

Hullygully · 15/05/2014 19:00

I don't think you have quite grasped the point naughtyspotty

QueMierda · 15/05/2014 19:03

If you don't like pictures of animal cruelty being posted on social media, you need to help stop the cruelty, not the pictures. You should be bothered that its happening, not that you saw it.

Probably not hully! I can be very dim at times.

As regards welfare, I know I currently don't do enough due to my own ill health, but I do what I can when I can. I have worked as a welfare officer with horses and I set up and ran my own very small cat charity overseas. I didn't make a lot of difference in the scheme of things, but for the individual animals I did help, it meant a lot to that particular animal :)

OneStepCloser · 15/05/2014 19:34

Anything that gets dropped on my door ADish although possibly not a Lion.

Reality is, I couldnt as I have no qualifications at all in that area or indeed any clue, but its a dream if I had another life iyswim.

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/05/2014 19:40

Yes Que. I actually used to think that if my death would stop all animal cruelty, forever, then I would willingly die. In fact. I still think that. But I realise that makes me sound completely batty. And like some earth mother version of Jesus.

Hullygully · 15/05/2014 19:40

CAN'T ANYONE READ?

OP posts:
ExitPursuedByABear · 15/05/2014 19:41
Confused

You are shouting my lovely.

Hullygully · 15/05/2014 19:44

Yes I am.

Bloody infuriating. There have only been a handful of posts, how hard is it to understand the OP and not write something as stupid as "don't watch animal cruelty?" ??????????????????

OP posts:
ExitPursuedByABear · 15/05/2014 19:46

Oh gosh. Are you referring to me?

Hullygully · 15/05/2014 19:48

No of course not, are you quite mad? That Que person up there

OP posts:
Twerking925 · 15/05/2014 19:51

God, you are being extremely rude Hully

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/05/2014 19:52

Yes I am. See my post thinking I am Jesus. Grin
