I can't bloodily believe it! I've just been yelled at by another mum for driving too fast.
BTW I WAS doing 30 and I DID stop. There was no need to block my car, quash my wing mirror, and yell at me.
Yes I know it is a bend, and there Is always that red van there, and yes I have a young child. I looked before moving out, but I didn't see her.

FFS!
Why don't they use there driveway instead of the road?

Sorry, from your OP, it sounds like you were in the wrong. I agree she had no right to yell at you, but she was probably frightened by the incident, so perhaps cut her some slack, and be a bit more careful, next time.

And I hope you are feeling a bit better now, too, after your fright. Brew

I was driving at 30 MHP, up the hill. At the top of the hill there is a bend.
There is always parked cars on one side (and I mean all the way up the hill), because they do not use there driveways. On the bend at the top of the hill there is a red tall van parked on the bend.

I saw the ford she was driving and stopped. I reversed, to let her pass. Then she gave me a ear full. About having a small child in the car, I had my son in they go back.

NO cats involved.

Was she coming the other way or did she pull out from the line of parked cars? If the former then it was unfortunate. If the latter then she ought to have given way to you. I'd probably been doing less than 30mph myself.

you were on the wrong side of the road and going too fast - 30mph IS too fast when driving on the wrong side on a blind bend

she shouldn't have shouted but i bet you scared the bejeepers out of her

no idea about your wing mirror - that made no sense!

ok, well, 30 can sometimes still be too fast, depending on the conditions, so I wouldn't say that you were automatically ok if you were doing 30. But if you were doing an appropriate speed for the conditions (pedestrians, visibility, obstructions etc) then you weren't wrong.

Am I right in thinking that you were doing 30 on the wrong side of the road? Trying to get past all the parked cars? afaik, when already halfway along, the person travelling up a hill tends to have priority.

Maybe they don't use their drives because people drive too fast up the hill, making it difficult for them to pull out safely.

30mph is the maximum speed in a 30mph zone. If it is a bend and you know the van is always there, then you should have slowed down and been more cautious. Any vehicle with a valid tax disc is permitted to park on the road. It is not compulsory to park in a driveway if you have one.

re the reversing I mean. If you were coming up the hill then the person coming down does tend to be the one to stop.

Are you saying that she hit your mirror or that the cars passed each other so closely that the mirror got twanged?

I would say 30 is too fast if your view of oncoming traffic is compromised but hard to say.

The speed limit is not a challenge to remain at top speed - it is the maximum considered safe for the road, at some points, due to visibility, weather conditions etc it will be necessary to drive slower than that. So it's possible uphill, with parked cars and a bend you were speeding.

How do you know the cars all belong to residents who don't use their drives and why is that relevant?

Were you on your side of the road or hers?

I looked before moving out, but I didn't see her would indicate the cars were on the OP side - at least that's how I read it

That's how I read it too....obviously no one knows the road layout but I would suggest in a residential area, parked vehicle and a bend then 30 mph is too fast. Saying "I didn't see her" shows the op hasn't left enough time to react to hazards.

Yes, she drove at me and used her wing mirror to push mine in. Effectively blocking me in. Just to yell at me.
So ok, maybe I should go slower there, knowing about the bend.

But still it's not a good example to yell at people just cause I may have scared her. Plus we are all human, and I'm sure she's sped down/up that hill.

I wouldn't stop and have a go at you. Life's too short for that.
But you were driving like an idiot. No one takes a bend like that at 30mph.

She she hardly "drove" at you. She was driving down her side of the road when she is met with someone who in all likelihood should have given way. Chalk this up to a learning experience.
